I have been working at PCA full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great People
    - Creative thinking
    - Open Network to collaborate
    - Forward thinking and explorative when new technologies are introduced
    - Flexible working hours and environment
    - Willing to create positions for people to expand and grow

    Cons

    - Pay is a little low for the creative positions given the experience
    - Get it done and ask questions later mentality (whether right or wrong)
    - Inexperienced DC Managers managing people who are more qualified they their direct reports.
    - Lack of communication from the management teams. (An "I'm the manager and you're not" attitude.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use your people more effectively, "Get involved" is not effective management advice. Management is their to lead by example and provide guidance to their direct reports. Not just to tell their direct report when they're doing something wrong. Share more information when it come to creative projects and get your people involved, their are highly qualified people in the PCA system not being utilized to their full potential.

I have been working at PCA full-time

    Pros

PCA has a small-company feel with a friendly environment. Co-workers feel like family and management seems to get we all have lives outside the office doors.

    Cons

Men seem to be promoted more often than women. There are women that have been here years in the same positions. It would be nice to see more women in upper management and more women promoted within the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a good look at your workforce. Cultivate opportunity for younger employees as this very much is an "aging workforce". People stay at PCA forever. They are very loyal to employees that are dedicated.

I worked at PCA as an intern

    Pros

Positions across the board were very stable. Working environment was far better than average and interns/co-ops had the opportunity to work on interesting projects if in the right department (Technical Dept. for myself).

    Cons

Engineering work for many talented full-time engineers involves less technical skills and more management of hourly employees.

I have been working at PCA as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone in the office was very nice and willing to help me when I needed it. I learned a ton about the corrugated packaging industry and what goes into developing expendable export packs for specific applications. I enjoyed my time at PCA.

    Cons

Can be slow sometimes, although you can find work if you put in the extra effort of asking for something to do.

I worked at PCA full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

This company is very smart with their investments and the way they treat their employees. Over the years they have accrued little debt, and as a result have grown very well in the past few years. Employees are given great opportunities for advancement while providing well balanced management.

    Cons

The locations of most of their mills are in small, rural towns that some potential employees may not find agreeable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recruit younger people willing to live in small towns, or ones that already have families.
