Management plays favorites. Very hot and physical labor. Crews can be hard on each other

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Good pay, insurance is slightly better than average, nice fellow employees,

    Cons

Company did not seem to care about employees or personal life. When safety issues were brought to company attention, they did not want to hear about them. Then you were on their list.

    Pros

Great benefits; Friendly coworkers; generally competitive pay.

    Cons

Very antiquated ways of thinking on a corporate level; Cut corners on technology - systematically insist on competitive designs and prices but refuse to supply employees with the appropriate tools.

    Advice to Management

"We've always done it that way" is not an acceptable justification of antiquated workflows and obsolete technology. Investing in your employees up front and making it easy for them to do their job will pay dividends.

    Pros

Since the acquisition of Boise Inc., PCA is able to compete more effectively in the consumer packaging industry due to increase in revenues and expanded geographical coverage within the U.S.

    Cons

PCA has a decentralized business model and historically outsourced most corporate functions. In fact, PCA does not value corporate cost center functions like Accounting & Finance, Human Resources, and IT. They starve these departments of financial resources, make those employees work with outdated technology, and expect those employees to work crazy hours for extended periods of time when problems occur. After a series of acquisitions over the past 5-10 years, because PCA has not upgraded its financial software, it has not been able to integrate the acquired companies into PCA's financial systems to efficiently consolidate financial results on a monthly basis. Their corporate financial systems are held together by figurative duct tape. Not a place to advance your career.

    Advice to Management

Your disdain for "back of house" corporate functions will cost you more in the long-run due to high turnover and financial accounting problems.

    Pros

The HQ is centrally located in Lake Forest, IL.

    Cons

Poor management, product is substandard, Employee relationship extremely poor, Knowledge base is poor. Company is based upon hiring friends in key positions, not upon knowledge or ability. Company may have higher pay, because they have no pension plans. Company uses loud vulgar language to entice employees to perform. Boys club, men only.

    Advice to Management

Employee people based upon knowledge and ability, not friendship.

    Pros

Hourly employees have a wealth of knowledge. Fair pay, decent work/life balance. Decent mentorship.

    Cons

Locations are generally boring and far-removed. Company is still in the process of moving documentation to fully electronic format - many P&IDs have gone without updates for years.

    Advice to Management

Aggressively push for full electronic documentation in the short-term. Have co-ops work more closely with hourly employees.

    Pros

401K, The coworkers are hard working good people to work with. All the people in inside the plant and outside sales really worked hard to satisfy and take care of the customer.

    Cons

Need to actually listen to your employees and take actions to implement ideas or suggestions. Many times felt as if no one was listening.

    Advice to Management

Remember we all get to go home without the customer.
