I worked at PCA full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Corporate PCA had benevolent oversight of the local facilitities. But those local facilities had the flexibility to optimize their unique strengths and talents. Having fifty plus offices, there was always a plant best suited for any customer.

    Cons

The employee-chemistry was crucial, for the effectiveness of the independence of all the separate plants.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at PCA full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There is no reason to work for PCA

    Cons

Terrible compensation program, absolutely the worst, no reason to work for this company when any other company is available and better to work for

I have been working at PCA full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Growing company (as a result of the recent acquisition of Boise, Inc.). Long-tenured employees who are incredibly loyal to the company.

    Cons

Growing company with long-tenured employees who are out of their element trying to manage the integration with Boise. Communication has gotten very poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember management 101 basic - people want to know what's in it for them and why things are happening the way they are happening. Communication will be the key to either your success or failure with this endeavor. So far...there is room for much improvement.

    Frustrating

I have been working at PCA

    Pros

    Good benefits,people. Good desks.short-term disability.

    Cons

Since Medco migration the performance goals have been set too high for problems. Pay cut is not what I signed up for. Medco workers were union and ESI busted the union. Those left should get large pay increases, not decreases!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know who is doing their job and reward them. Get rid of bottom- feeders!!

I worked at PCA full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. The "Golden Rule" culture is not just spoken about but they legitimately try to put it into practice. The company offers many great training opportunities and strives to build into their people.

    Cons

Work/Life balance is difficult to achieve. Worked many, many 60-70 hour weeks with little choice in the matter.

I worked at PCA full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Management at all levels that focus on employees as people and developing them to their fullest potential. Excellent working conditions and benefits.

    Cons

Vertical management tiers that make it difficult to get decisions made in a timely manner. Many employees there a long time and can be resistant to new ideas or change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure communication is open and timely with the area and plant levels. Allow plants to control much of day to day operations.

    Great Co-op Experience

Former Intern - Electrical Engineering Co-Op in Tomahawk, WI
Former Intern - Electrical Engineering Co-Op in Tomahawk, WI

I worked at PCA as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Lot of good supervisors. Experience a lot as a co-op. They give you as much as you handle, with support along the way.

I had tons of projects and worked with a large variety of people: operators, electricians, pipe fitters, supervisors ... ect. At the mill that I worked at (Tomohawk) I had projects in the many areas: power house, wood yard, pulping sector, 2 paper machines and waste water treatment plant.

    Cons

Even the negatives helped increase my learning experiences. Biggest thing was getting used to dealing with the amount of people that have to approve even the smallest things.

    Former Employee - Plant Accountant

I worked at PCA full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great corporate culture, treat employees as people, not numbers, from plant level to upper management. Opportunites for growth and continuing education. Great salaries and benefits, as to be expected from a Fortune 500 company. Also reward dedicated employees with generous annual bonuses.

    Cons

Occasionly, some management can seem stuffy to someone not used to a Fortune 500 company environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing! You have a true focus on your employees, which is rare to find in today's corporate america.
