    Pros

First of all, they pay interns EXTREMELY WELL. Everyone who works there is extremely friendly and will help you get adjusted and up to speed ASAP. You're given actual responsibilities that impact PCORI rather than typical tedious intern duties. Also, you are free to set your own hours, work from home, and be paid overtime (as long as you check-in with your supervisor beforehand). Plus free coffee/tea in the kitchen.

    Cons

Sometimes work gets slow or boring, but that's true of any job.

    Pros

Great work environment, generous benefits, Spot bonuses, positive and supportive staff, open communication from leadership and lots of learning opportunities and room for growth.

    Cons

Small start up that is still getting systems, processes and roles in place which is understandable as the organization has only existed for 3 years and continues to grow. If you're not flexible, hard working or want to leave your mark on a growing organization, then this probably isn't the place for you.

    Pros

Incredible benefits (6wks PTO, company double matches your 401k contribution up to 5%, great medical benefits, etc), some fantastic people, very diverse, good work-life balance, progressive, interesting work, meaningful mission.

    Cons

Incredibly dysfunctional leadership with virtually no business understanding, no comprehension of the value and importance of operations support (non-Science) personnel (they're especially clueless about information technology), highly political, quasi-nepotistic, the organization lacks a clear identity, HR is the worst I've ever worked with, very little opportunity for career growth.

    Advice to Management

Be humble enough to realize that you need representation on the executive team from all operational support teams, specifically IT and a COO

    I worked at PCORI

    Pros

    - Extremely smart, hard working people - Fairly responsive HR - Lots of opportunity, as long as you're willing to put in the hours

    Cons

    - Run by scientists, who don't have a single business bone in their body - Much of senior management does not practice work/life balance and expects staff to feel and work the same way - Communication is severely lacking and silos abound - There is almost an unnatural fear of the Board of Governors

    Advice to Management

Communicate with your staff; define positions and set expectations upfront. Give people a chance to succeed - expecting a new staff person to be fully ramped up in less than two months is completely unrealistic and unreasonable.

    Pros

some good people on some teams, good people on contracts

    Cons

~Unprofessional, lying, undermining, spreading rumors, obsession with getting promoted, threatening to leave, some sociopaths ~Apply for job internally w/out telling your mgr, no worries, HR will announce at a bar ~Don't apply for a job, no worries, someone will start a rumor that you did to get your mgr to hate you ~Try to leave, your mgr will try to fire you while you are in hospital or vacation

    Advice to Management

~place is out of control, some things that happen to people are scary
