John P. McLaughlin
Former Employee – worked at PDL
Pros – Great work environment. Open lines of communications with top management. Superb talent among sales force. Very generous for top performers.
Cons – Poor execution of bringing new products to the market. Could have been the top critical care/ hospital based company. No vision for the future after generic entrance.
Advice to Senior Management – Limit the influence of the Wall Street on the company's managerial decisions. Focus on "boutique" application of human anti-body technology rather than on "cure for all" approach.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at PDL
Pros – Good benefits and excellent pay or golden handcuffs.
Cons – Workload is unreasonable. High stress and high volume that is centered on a small amount of people.
Advice to Senior Management – Management has no idea how to manage. It is the buddy system and only "yes men" are rewarded regardless of education and experience. If you are liked they will give you the moon. People who work hard and produce are not rewarded or recognized.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Former Employee – worked at PDL
Pros – Level of flexibility, good mid-level management, interesting science, good technology, good academic collaborators
Cons – favouritism, incompetent management, people who dont know what they dont know and who dont care that they dont know, lack of openess, total lack of responsibility
Advice to Senior Management – replace research management with scientists who care and understand drug development and really passionate about bringing new medicines to patients
focus on values rather then just set of skills
improve communication between groups, be less process oriented and more people oriented
