I have been working at PHD full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people here are awesome - smart, fun, cultured, and hard-working. Yoga Mondays, Big Hug Volunteer Service etc. etc. You definitely feel at home here and will have no problem making friends and growing your network

    Cons

So much work. Account are under-staffed, people are generally left to figure it out for themselves. It's trial by fire which is the MO for the industry as a whole, but PHD really needs to work on their staffing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop putting planners on multiple accounts - it's not the same as being on multiple accounts at higher levels.

Staff up - the trend seems to be let the most experienced on the team do all the work to get it out the door, but that leaves the newbies without any training and essentially unable to take stuff off more senior peoples plates so they can grow and focus on their actual job functions.

  3.

Excellent for traditional media roles in L.A., but not for digital or integrated role

I worked at PHD as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

They have excellent, traditional media knowledge.
Very smart and passionate people on the junior level, who are used to making a lot of big decisions.
Offer great agency-wide planning tools and research.
As part of Omnicom, offers great benefits.

    Cons

L.A. office operates small and lean, focusing mainly on a single client. There's been huge amount of turn over on that team, specifically of digital employees. Both leaving on their own and being let go.

It's an "integrated" media team with digital and traditional media work, but the team was mostly comprised of traditional media planners, including managers and directors. Leadership members had no digital media planning experience and were disinterested in it. Therefore, they focused on traditional media decisions and left big digital media planning decisions to very junior planners with little experience.

Very late nights, ending between 8pm - midnight, often.

    I worked at PHD

    Pros

Great culture and atmosphere. Great benefits.

    Cons

Don't develop careers-prefer to hire in than promote from within. Have no support structure for staff when they need help.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nurture your talent, instead of suffocating them with boredom.
