Current Employee - Manager in London, England (UK)

I have been working at PIMCO Europe full-time

    Pros

Best bond house in the world in terms of 1st year learning process (especially on the macro front) and brand recognition. Very flat hierarchy structure with some entrepreneurial possibilities. Very slim structure (similar to Morgan Stanley) which allows for significant exposure to investors/consultants

    Cons

Geographical mobility is near-absent, internal politics and nationality seems to matter a lot more than skills, HR is very disorganized. Too much US-focused

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try and build more HR capabilities, more attention to talents and less to internal politics.

Good place to work but not on par with Newport office

    I worked at PIMCO Europe

    Pros

    - Very professional environment
    - Great place to learn
    - Possibility to get in contact with very competent people
    - General quality of colleagues
    - Sustainable work-life balance
    - Quite good compensation

    Cons

    - Worse hours than at other asset managers
    - A bit of backwater compared to Newport
    - The most skilled and senior managers are elsewhere
        - this is also reflected in the performance of funds

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be clear about culture and relation to Newport HQ. Right now the German office is a mix of the more mediocre Allianz Global Investors and US PIMCO

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at PIMCO Europe

    Pros

The company has a great reputation in the market and I work with some of the smartest people I have ever worked with. Not only that but compared to an investment bank the people are also really nice! It is a great place to work with a strong corporate culture. The firm is very client orientated and prides itself on its level of service

    Cons

The portfolio managers are very focussed on the running of portfolios and so can be difficult to tie down to meetings! You also need to be wary of cultural differences in terms of the European vs American work habits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what PIMCO does well - focussing on the customer
