Applications Engineer (Current Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

    ProsExcellent team. Great working environment.
    Very good understanding manager.
    Very High learning environment

ConsRelatively a lower package compared to what other companies offer but is not really a con when you are liking the work you do.

    Good, it could be better.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsMore responsibility is given based on ones interest, otherwise you were not considered. Basically if you are proactive then you are projected properly and lots of room to grow.

ConsNot everyone can be proactive, if you are not you will not be given enough importance to grow. Which is very bad if one is not proactive. More driven by customers which should not be the criteria, rather have a strong product and attract the customers...

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease update standards of salaries as per the market.

    Great relaxing place to work

Software Engineer (Former Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsEmployment is stable, since their products are usually large contracts to other big companies. Work environment is not as competitive as other companies, everyone is friendly and mature. Managers are also understanding and lets you get t he work done. Not a lot of office politics, everyone is about getting a product out.

ConsIf you like a very competitive and high paying environment, then you should look for work in companies similar to Apple. The pay isn't as high as other companies because they are more relaxed.

Very bad place to work for

Senior Product Design Engineer (Former Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsPMC was not a good place to work in. Too much politics . Sr Management was pretty incompetent. Most of the good work was controlled by people in Burnaby

    ConsToo much politics
All the good work moved to Burnaby
    Managers were bad at schedules.
    Though smart engineers,good process etc

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't concentrate all the work in Burnaby
    Give competitive salaries
Middle managers need to be better at scheduling.
    More foresight.

Poor discipline, long hours and job insecurity

Engineer (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsFriendly people, willing to talk face to face. Technical experts willing to share with others. Doing technically challenging work, sometimes leading edge. Very good quality standards, and eager to maintain good customer relationships.

ConsR&D design team does not respect other groups, rejects new ideas or approaches. There is no good sense of discipline, with frequent schedule slips. Designers mess up key features with no consequences. Dysfunctional behavior: confrontations, put downs, yelling in meetings or e-mails; but these disappear when talking face to face. A lot of churning through procedures and red-tape. Layoffs occur frequently, with no good reasons why. Very top heavy with management. International company but very Canadian centric, not open to other ideas or cultures.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on accountability starting with the top VP, schedules and cost. Avoid acquisitions that are too expensive and take too long to pay off; much money was lost purchasing companies that never delivered. New CEO shows promise improving discipline, but culture is entrenched.

    Too Bad the bubble burst

Senior Product Design Engineer (Former Employee)

ProsVery fair environment with interesting technologies and support

ConsAs with most, the hours can be long and there are often little amounts of down time between projects to get caught up with life. Our design center was one of the casualties of the "downsizing" efforts following the telecom bubble burst and recovery is still questionable.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep pushing forward!

Leftover from the 2000 tech bubble

Manager, Product Marketing (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsAcceptable pay. 401k match vests from day 1.

ConsWeak managment team. Group is full of old HP/Agilent employees who do not want to make hard decisions. Limited growth opportunity as most markets served are mature.

Advice to Senior ManagementEvaluate new talent at the director level in the management chain.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
