    Pros

Flexible work schedule, no pressure to deliver results, barely needed to work 40 hours a week, great place for those forced out of HP to coast until they can retire.

    Cons

All interesting work is done in Sunnyvale, Burnaby, and other offices. Roseville engineering management is not allowed to make decisions because they're not respected by the rest of the company. Company is run by marketing, not by engineers.

    Advice to Management

Fire all the HP refugees, take Canada out of the decision making loop.

    Pros

    - small chip company: possible to learn many aspects of chip design in short span of time - focus on documentation increases opportunity for self-learning - reasonably collegial culture: people are friendly, back-stabbing or sabotage are rare

    Cons

    - bureaucratic yet under-resourced, so central resources (IT, CAD) suffer substantially yet dictate policies far and wide - poor benefits - geography disbursed design community makes collaboration difficult - limited revenue growth potential - risk-adverse culture results in product losers - average/weak engineering talent - very political organizational structure - weak central CAD group

    Advice to Management

Reduce management by half. Decentralize CAD so as to empower design groups to make their own decisions, allowing project priorities can align with product excellence rather than adherence to flows and methodologies of dubious value.

    Pros

small high competency teams. strong development flow, good tools. not micromanaged. compensation competitive.

    Cons

typical tight development schedules, not a lot of projects to choose from, but ones that are approved get good support. products related to storage have good business prospects.

    Advice to Management

grow internal expertise to retain and build long term competencies.

    Pros

Project teams were small and had a lot of interaction that allowed us to resolve issues quickly. You had time to decompress after going through scheduling crunch times. Office staff generally got along well and did a lot of social activities together.

    Cons

Didn't feel we were always told the full story on our group's program strategy. Maybe it was due to the changing market. Schedules were unrealistic without any contingencies.
