Avoid PMC Sierra Bangalore - Be patient in job search, not waste your education and do your
    career a favour

Former Employee - PMC Bangalore Alumni ; -) in Bangalore (India)

I worked at PMC-Sierra full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Management provide good cab service and instant coffee. It is easier than understanding
    semiconductors, ain't it ?

Perceived higher-than-market compensation as a bait by an otherwise disfavoured local
company - intelligent people do not get taken in by this.

    Cons

This "place" do not bear any remote semblance or even the shreds of a professional organization.
Almost or rather in entirety, a family-run entity behind the curtains targeted to bring down educated,
qualified and honest people who had made a huge career mistake by taking a job in this organization without doing much research. By the time the realization dawns upon upon about what an irreversible blunder has been made, he is into an abyss of despair waiting out some months before looking out for a next job. Providentially, the candidates who are trying to leave this place after a short and excruciatingly difficult time (stint?) at this site, get absorbed in good organizations and heave a sigh of relief.

There isn't any good person left except for a few may be who have been luckily unscathed or have
    perhaps have personal reasons.

Unqualified people are promoted to higher ranks even up to the levels of principal engineers and
senior managers by local management much to the mockery and derision from the North American
sites - actually even by other employees of this site who 'understands'.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Local management need not be advised as they unabashedly pursue their style of functioning
and machinations - well described in some earlier reviews. NA management are so qualified,
exceptional, world-class and honest but probably maintaining a dignified silence or hopefully
    planning an overhaul.

    Pros

cab facility, No work . good salary and good products

    Cons

very unprofessional. most of crucial work leading by lazy and unskilled leads and managers.
people can join here to improve your compensation.
dont look for long term career.
worse strategy to give promotions and Hikes(some people dont get single promotion in 5 years and some will get 2 promotions in 1 year)
No respect work wise and new ideas.
always get junk work which NA team dont like to work.
some times contractors and freshers may dominate(even ur more experienced you have to fallow freshers orders in work).

    Pros

Lots of fun and no work - if you consider that as a pro!

    Cons

Worst management I have seen in my 15 year career. Total lack of direction and most people who end up becoming managers are good at boot licking and usually from Maharashta. Technical skills is not a prerequisite to work in PMC, Bangalore. Join if you are sure that you never want to get hired by another company post your PMC days...

M in PMC-Sierra Stands for Maharashtra

Current Employee - Software Engineer in Bangalore (India)
Current Employee - Software Engineer in Bangalore (India)

I have been working at PMC-Sierra full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    * Process oriented work
    * Cab facility

    Cons

    * Unprofessional Management: WORST management you will ever find in semiconductor industry. Consequently, the level of attrition is very high with virtually all decent engineers leaving the Bangalore division.
    * Desperate and insecure management resorting to cheap and unprofessional ways to promote nepotism. Regionalism abound and people from Maharashtra and in and around Nagpur being promoted to safeguard the empire of utterly incompetent managers/engineers
    * North American management turning a blind eye to these activities in Bangalore despite knowing very well the problems.
    * North American management secretly wants Bangalore to do bad/mediocre, local Bangalore management actually INTENDS to look like bunch of jokers so that its position is secure
    * Result is all round mediocrity, a circus run by local management where engineers join and leave every single week with no long term vision. It is like enrichment in centrifuge. Engineers come and go and the workforce gets enriched by people from Maharashtra in the process with ever increasing share of people in an around Nagpur over time. NA management is smoking pot meanwhile.
    * No point in joining PMC-Sierra Bangalore with a long term career. For short term, you can consider it and if you do join, bargain hardest for remuneration as management will agree as not many engineers choose PMC Bangalore.

Lastly, PMC-Sierra is struggling hard overall with lay-offs and lost projects. It makes no sense to join such an unprofessional organization unless you can't find a job anywhere else.

    Pros

Kind co-workers with nice environments, including cafeteria and gym. Greate infra/system to learn technical skills as a coop student.

    Cons

Nothing specially negative. You need to be "people person". You must know how to manager your time in the independent environment.

    I worked at PMC-Sierra full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Competent co-workers
    Solid workflow and design methodology
Leaders and managers are very technical
    Good work ethic

    Cons

Very limited to non for career growth for remote sites. It feels like the only thing that grows in this companies are number of VP and directors
Depending of the team leader, the jobs are mostly porting technologies and small improvement. It takes a long time to accept new ideas and innovation. Focused too much on development rather than research. This contributes to the limited career opportunities.
If you want work-life balance , it comes at a cost of job security. There's been layoff every year since I worked for this company.
It feels like this company spends too much energy in cutting cost, rather than creating more opportunities at making money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be cheap at rewarding your employees for a jobs well done.
If you want to remain competitive, you must invest in your R&D

    Cons

    - Work culture needs to improve: at the moment, organization believes in Work Hard, party harder, that everyone may not like.
    - As the organization headcount is small, team politics is visible and impacts if you dont play safe or perform better
