Very ridged company that takes a long time to make decisions.
Not very focused on customer service or support.
Very poor compensation with little opportunity to increase.
    Poor demotivated culture.

    Pros

Huge exposure to a wide variety of personalities, ideas; great place to cut your teeth and gain exposure to corporate politics, sensitivity, learn about the real reasons why HR departments exist. Great place to learn how to "play the game" and grow some thick skin.

    Cons

Fear culture, favoritism, people moved around and promoted on tenure rather than skill set and performance. If you can "play the game" and have a high tolerance for working with bureaucracy at its finest and if you like to attend meeting after meeting that has nothing to do with you or your projects then this is the place for you!

    Advice to Management

Clean House (middle management) regularly, embrace technology at every turn, spend money on people- rather than facility rearrangement and beautification, and either throw out, rewrite, or replace the performance and learning plan system- It is a joke and a deceptive waste of time.

    Pros

Closed Sundays and Christmas Eve & Day is not the busy season so you can take a vacation at that time unlike normal retail. Also store close at 5pm during the week and noon on Saturday. 2 weeks vacation after 6 months. If you do work a Holiday you get an additional day off 30 days before or after that Holiday.

    Cons

Was told a 50 hour work week but usually working 60. Company using old POS system that needs to be updated so you can access other stores POS nationwide. No sick days for managers only the 2 weeks vacation. Can be fast and hard labor at times and others slow.

    Advice to Management

Need a better recruiting system and have dummy reqs out there to keep a consistent flow of applicants in the system. Also need a designated training module for new hires outside of company, web based training is not enough.

    Pros

Great benefits and comp package is there with the Industry standard. Well-formulated coatings that compete well within the marketplace.

    Cons

Middle-management rules with an "iron fist." Old school 80's management-style where the bosses come down on sales force practically every week. Sales individuals are threatened repeated about losing his/ her job.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the customer and good things might happen. Spend some money on local marketing/ advertising to help support paint line "no one has heard of." Stop changing initiatives every quarter; if management would stay focused on the customer this company has a chance to capture market share.

    Pros

-They pay you well to relocate
    -Very flexible on hours
    -Good work schedule, Mon-Fri 7am-5pm
    -Competitive pay $37,000

    Cons

When you first interview for the position they make the opportunities seem amazing and getting placed is a piece of cake. Just to give you a little background, this Career Development Program, or CDP as we are referred to, is basically in a temporary position. Once you complete the 6 month training program you have 6 months to find a store. Now what the don't tell you is that completing the training program is the easy part and that finding a store is a very intense process. Even though you were hired on and be trained to be a manager doesn't mean you will have any preference over other candidates applying to the same management position. So once you complete the program you go to the careers web page and look for openings all across the country. Keep in mind there are 30 other candidates in your class that you are competing against for these positions. Once you find a store you would like to apply to next you have to see if it is CDP eligible. Basically it can't be a brand new store and it can't be over a million dollars in sales. By the way there is a person in charge of the CDP program who is supposed to help you get placed, well he does very little, I mean you are on you own. Finally after you apply to a store you go through a formal interview process like you would with any other job and than they say you the our doing more interviews and will make a decision by the end of the week. A couple different scenarios usually occur. One, they let you know in an email that you were not a good fit for the position, Two, you never hear anything from them again.

    Advice to Management

My thought is if you hire and train people to be managers they should have priority in getting manager positions

    Pros

no pros at all, company provides car, you pay for it. Possibility for bonus, but management reserves the right to make changes at any time and they do, when it's time to pay out. Holidays? Nope can't have them if they fall on a weekend, sorry? Are you good at what you do? Do you overachieve on goals? So what, we don't care, you are easily replaced. Are you working to make a living to support yourself? Look else where, won't happen here. Do you live to work? This is the company for you!

    Cons

this is the most horrible company I have ever worked for, no work/life balance, no compassion for employees, it's all about the $$$$. They can't do a thing right at store level, and the favorite phrase? It is what it is.

    Advice to Management

encourage your talent rather than make us feel like yesterday's trash

    Pros

Management is vague about opportunities for advancement.
Reviews critical about topics they say are PPG standards but unable to explain the standards.
Management does not know the job
Turns a blind eye to problems and unable to work for improvement

    Cons

Nice co-workers. Employees hate their job and are on pins and needles. No open communication or opportunities for improvement.

    Advice to Management

Have open communication, openly resolve problems. Apparently management doesn't care there is a 25% turnover due to employees quitting, retiring early, moving to other depts or terminating talent because of inability to properly train.
