Pros
Some great individuals in the global firm
Some good and interesting work coming from non-European offices
Shaping some key industries globally
Tend to have people back in the home offices on Fridays, if the client work permits
Cons
Positionally, still a "wannabe" firm outside of the US high tech world
Very bad career management, with career mentoring exists in name only. Non-Director levels serve to generate profit for the Directors.
Little throughout from Associate to Director
Lack of firm loyalty in its workforce
High turnover of junior staff
Has had its day as the leading edge thought management generator - that is now seen as a nice to have
Although they place great emphasis on having a great work-life balance, it is a consultancy, and you will still be signing away your life from Monday to Friday
Training is virtually non-existent
Back office support is very thin
Advice to Senior Management
Listen and develop your junior staff - it works out cheaper in the long run and will bring in more revenue
Don't be afraid to roll up you sleeves and get involved in the projects
Pros
The focus on client results and exposure to client executives at all levels
The ability work on a variety of projects and industry issues
The incredible talent within the organization and the approachability of nearly everyone
Cons
Not enough scale to reach more clients, markets, industries, and geographies
Not enough investment in back office processes
Not enough structured training beyond OJT
Pros
The people, great group of strong motivated consulting staff that are always willing to support each other through tough client demands
Cons
Because senior management is so focused on the sales cycle, balancing client work, new business development and any personal time can often be challenging. Sometimes when the question is asked of "which should I do?" the answer should not be "yes"
Advice to Senior Management
Be more reasonable with work life balance. Running staff on clients til late, just to ask to them to work nights and weekends on proposals does not foster a positive opinion at certain points.
Pros
Smart but down to earth people, collaborative and relatively flat work culture, high quality/high impact client work, on the rise -- growing rapidly.
Cons
Operational, sometimes tactical work
Narrow expertise and skill set (the firm is actively working on changing this)
Limited name recognition
Average compensation (relative to larger consulting firms)
Work culture becoming more competitive
Becoming more of an up or out firm
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on more strategic work
Diversify capabilities and skill set
Invest in improving brand awareness
Strive to maintain a collaborative work culture
Pros
great place for management consulting in high tech
Cons
long hours, lots of work - typical for management consulting
Advice to Senior Management
Keep going
Pros
1. Extremely open and frendly culture
2. Smart, intelligent yet down to earth people
3. Tons of opportunity to learn...firm still has entrepreneur DNA
4. You can create your own careet path
Cons
1. Still very operations focussed
2. Very poor global strategy. Extremely consservative mindset and not ready to invest in emerging markets yet
3. Not a true meritrocracy...some international offices have "socialist" mindset towards promotions. (Your progress is often linked to overall group's progression)
Advice to Senior Management
1. Invest in emerging markets or else sacrifice growth
2. Shun risk averseness and enter into new industry verticals
Pros
Wide industry presence. Tactical. Opportunity to travel extensively.
Cons
No C level interactions. Consultants are very overworked and the compensation not on par with other consulting firms. More focus on staff augmentation versus strategic consulting.
Advice to Senior Management
Practice what you preach. Don't sell the firm's work-life balance philosophy when it is clearly not true. Give out better bonuses. Focus on selling at the C level.
Pros
Good experience with diverse industries
Cons
Poor mentorship
Lack of leadership
Perceived disrespect to H1 Visa holders
Advice to Senior Management
Associates are valuable resources
Pros
Great general management experience. good opportunities to learn about different industries. Decent work/life balance for a consulting firm. Work with lots of smart people.
Cons
Few promotions in the last few years. Travel (although that is a given for consulting)
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on both practice area IP development in addition to NBD/sales.
Pros
- Easy access to senior management
- Good on the job learning
- Flexibility among business groups/geographies
- "OK" people
Cons
- Inconsistent and unfair promotions
- Low salary
- Lack of formal training and infrastructure
- Limited investment on networking
