Big company with an entrepreneurial spirit

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsAmbition and work ethic are rewarded. Thousands of locations mean a ton of opportunity, depending on what you want to do. Fiscally responsible with a good profit margin means stability.

ConsSome planning is a bit seat-of-the-pants. I don't know if this is at the executive level, or just because of poor inter-department planning. Nothing huge, but it creates some inefficiencies.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter planning at the corporate level.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Looks good on a resume

Event Technology Specialist III (Current Employee)

ProsUse this job as a stepping stone to something better. There is valuable experience to be gained that you can take elsewhere. Directors are very helpful, but upper management only cares about the bottom line.

ConsUnrealistic expectations for what can be accomplished with limited help, no set schedule or hours, working nights and weekends, spending your "day off" on call. You will work 60 hours one week, then 20-30 the next, with no notice ahead of time. incompetent sales staff results in technicians having to negotiate prices on the spot. This job is not an audiovisual gig. It is 90% hotel and customer service.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe business model is not sustainable. Corporate is trying to make the company as profitable as possible by cutting hourly labor, and working salary guys until they inevitably burn out. Hire enough help and actually let them work their hours, so that employees can have a somewhat reasonable work-life balance. Put an actual PSAV employee in each hotel sales office, don't leave it up to someone in catering to know what equipment we need.

    It's up to you

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat chance for advancement if you apply yourself and get the job done. Your attitude and actions determine hoe far you go.

ConsIt's a service industry job that can have long irregular hour and is occasionally a thankless (from the client) role.

Advice to Senior ManagementTechs are not just labor hours... They have lives and loved ones. If you treat them with respect and are honest with them, they will give you more than just someone punching a time card.

    Progressive responsibility for top performers

Human Resources (Former Employee) Schaumburg, IL

ProsTeam members have the opportunity to move up within the organization assuming they perform well and are flexible for next steps/locations. If you are open to learn new skills, speak up and you'll have more options.

ConsThere are often very long hours especially during busy season. Team members can get lost in the shuffle of over 1200 locations.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate with ALL employees more regularly. Halt rumor mills with truth.

    NEEDS SERIOUS OVERHAUL

Event Technology Specialist III (Current Employee) Newark, NJ

ProsYou will learn plenty working here. Having SOME clients that are rewarding to work with. Camaraderie among co-workers. They fly you out after you are hired for training which is a very good idea.

ConsThe work-life balance is horrible. You either work 80 or 8 hours. You can work at different locations and some people treat you well and are happy to have you aboard and others will treat you like you work at Wal-Mart. The management of the hotels that you work for can be idiots and there is no accountability in for their actions at all. This means you will have to work with very angry clients that are upset about things you can't change or help them with. The have a monopoly so everyone will have to deal with them no matter what.

Advice to Senior ManagementI understand that you have to earn money but please think of hourly people as an investment and don't incentivize already stressed managers to cut costs by not hiring hourly people regularly or using cheap equipment that is on it's way out. You have a business to run but the way you run it is not very good. You have to draw better lines in the sand when dealing with hotels. And educate your managers better about what it means for working at PSAV and how the company actually works.

ProsFree food in the hotel cafeteria.
You learn something new all the time.
Great employees. The hire the best.

ConsIf your part-time you wont get priority with hours. But that depends on your director.
