No room for upward movement

Engineer Nuclear (Current Employee)
Hancocks Bridge, NJ

I have been working at PSE&G full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood communication from upper level management downwards, but at lower levels communication doesn't exist within the departments. If you're not a supervisor or above, you rarely know what is going on.

ConsThis company typically hires from the outside instead of promoting their people from within although they claim one of their value is Developing Their People, they rarely follow through on this.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote your people from within instead of holding them back and hiring from the outside.

Not the best, not the worst

Computer Programmer (Former Employee)
Newark, NJ

I worked at PSE&G full-time for more than a year

ProsA rather large company with different areas or divisions to allow movement and or lateral mobility

ConsPay was on the lower end of the scale. Many middle managers had little to no idea how best to serve the other departments or the company as a whole.

Overall a decent company to work for

Senior Analyst (Current Employee)
Newark, NJ

I have been working at PSE&G

ProsStable industry where everyone needs power. Company has a long impressive history.

Conscurrent downsizing and cutbacks make the environment much less attractive than working for a competitor. Employees are a bit jaded due to this.

Advice to Senior Managementcoffee? Really? Took away the coffee to help the bottom line. Bottom line will suck when productivity decreases.

PSEG okay but very old school

Substation Mechanic (Former Employee)
Clifton, NJ

I worked at PSE&G

ProsThe Union IBEW. Chance to make a descent living. Great benefits.

ConsNot enough time off, no pension, most supervisors forget where they came from. Work is dangerouse.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a way to bridge the gap between 1st level supervisors and Union personell. There is definetly a line drawn in the sand. Its like a slave, master mentality. It should be like a Coach, player mentality.
