Pros
The people I work with are a lot of fun to spend my day with. The shoe designers are some of the funniest people I've known, and the overall attitude around the company is extremely positive and creative. If you're looking for a place to work where you're creativity is sure to be valued, look no further than Puma because management is always open to hearing fresh new ideas. I've never had a problem getting time off when I've needed it, and my boss is very open and communicative with me. My job provides me with the opportunity to work with every single person in the office, including the CMO, and has been a fantastic opportunity to network.
Cons
There's no escaping a few difficult personalities in such a creative environment, but I've been able to be honest about my concerns and it isn't too hard to work around it. I also put a lot of pressure on myself, but that's kind of my own doing because I really like my job.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work!
Pros
Creative projects, fun work environment, lots of travel, willingness to challenge convention, young atmosphere, great place to earn your chops prior to moving to somewhere else
Cons
glass ceiling, very little room to grow, extremely poor compensation, no growth plan or talent retention program, lack fundamental reporting structure
Advice to Senior Management
develop a plan for how to grow, retain and foster the development of talent. You will always attract talented employees as long as you continue to do clever work, just make sure you hang onto those people...
Pros
Fun atmosphere. Shoes are amazing
Cons
Horrible clock in system. Can never get days off
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of cronos
Pros
It's an iconic brand. The company is focused on sustainability with many different projects and initiatives. You get to work with a diverse group of people. There is a big focus on individual growth and development. It's a fun and challenging work atmosphere. The brand is continuously evolving, never stagnant. It's a global company with lots of opportunities to move into different departments and also to relocate to different cities.
Cons
Because there are not as many retail locations in the US, there is a lot of travel for multi-unit managers which does not allow as much time in the stores for face to face interactions/ training, etc. The timekeeping/ scheduling system (Kronos) does not work smoothely and it seems that it is overly complicated for the purpose it serves.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to be innovative and always try new things. Don't lose focus on the importance of work-life balance of your employees at all levels.
Pros
Good benefits, nice discount, and the dress code is reasonably relaxed.
Cons
Getting time off is extraordinarily difficult, much of the management is excellent at playing the blame shifting game and even when goals are exceeded still will choose to provide staff with negative reinforcement instead of a reasonable amount of recognition and praise.
Advice to Senior Management
Find new store management
Pros
Free Shoes and Free clothes...Allotment
Cons
Kronos System is out of date. Upper Management is never around.
Advice to Senior Management
Look elsewhere
Pros
Great people, great atmosphere, potential to get involved in many interesting projects.
Cons
Limited avancement options, poor HRM, limited job flexibility.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize and retain talent.
Pros
It was a good place over all to work. Great employee discount and free apparel and shoes. Company is big on couching in a positive way, employee development, and secession planning.
Cons
Some policies and procedures are a waste of time or not done in the most efficient way.
Pros
There is a good discount for employees and free apparel every quarter.
Flexibility in the schedule and friendly work environment.
Cons
The management system is very poor with no room for growth. Upper level management very disorganized and really has no idea how to run a store.
Advice to Senior Management
No really way to advance in the company by starting at retail associate. You would need to start at an upper management position to advance.
Pros
As an intern, I was given adequate work (not busy work as my last internships had given me). My management was completely respectful, and treated me like a team member rather than a college student. The perks (and I don't just mean free merchandise) were beyond worth applying there for full-time employment! And apparently, from what I've heard, the benefits are amazing. The central location in Boston (right on the seaport, across from the Harpoon brewery), make it a fun place to be in the summer as well!
Cons
Unpaid internship..but most are! Also, just the inconveniences of public transit in getting there (I had to switch trains three times).
