I worked at PacifiCorp full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Stable hours, a company that is well known, good pay, ability to move to other subsidiaries.

    Cons

HR was difficult to work with, a lot of people are waiting for retirement and don't seem to care about their work. Didn't feel valued as an employee, and all young workers there were pretty miserable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your employees, old and new, as they can make or break your company.

I have been working at PacifiCorp

    Pros

Good pay, above average compared to industry.

    Cons

Worst health insurance I have ever seen. For a family and a $400 deductable, they make you pay $830 A MONTH! Even just the HDHP HSA plan, it costs a family $354 a month. Rediculous. I have worked at a few utilities as a lineman, and this is about 2.5 times than I have ever had to pay before. This is in Wyoming.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit cutting costs through health insurance cuts.

    Pros

The office is located in downtown Portland and they have a very nice office building, that's about all one can say about this company.

    Cons

Poor Leadership, lack of respect for anyone not in a leadership position.

    Stay far away.

I worked at PacifiCorp as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

It's on the Max line if you work in the 'tower of power' in Lloyd Center

    Cons

    1. There are 2 ancient toilets for the whole 4th floor. They aren't nice.
    2. The 'Architects' and 'Managers' are less qualified than most of the Indians (outsourced via another offshore company) that do most of the work here.
    3. The business is VERY manager top heavy: 'Manager of Online Strategy' is some clueless twit.
    4. Some very OLD and ODD technology installed here!
    5. NO software dev metholodolgy. if they say they are 'agile' ASK them what agile means!
    6. Usual cubicle farm and no team communication and no trust. Just horrible.

I worked at PacifiCorp full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Line employees genuinely care about each other and their jobs, the work in and of itself isn't too difficult, plenty of opportunities to work with other segments of the company, work can also be extremely interesting if you get in on the right initiative or task group, pay is pretty decent and benefits are adequate.

    Cons

Continuous cuts to staffing often to critically low levels with no contingency plans leading to employee burnout, continuous cuts to benefits, only real way to advance in the company is to leave and come back, day to day work is often compromised to work on corporate special projects often with little to no bearing on core corporate needs, heavily fragmented corporate structure with often obstructive managers (particularly with groups in Utah), corporate culture pays lip service to safety/customer service/reliability without actually investing in improvements, executive management is either willingly ignorant or apathetic to these issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Middle management needs to stand up for their subordinates to put pressure on upper management/holding company execs to stop the cuts to staffing levels in order to hit holding company targets.

I have been working at PacifiCorp full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Interesting job duties. Challenging work. There are still some good co-workers at this company.

    Cons

If you make a mistake it may cost you your job. This creates an environment of fear. Benefits are not so great. The company indicates that benefits are in line with the industry, however I left to go to work for a competitor who provides much better overall compensation. Management does not care about the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You get what you pay for. Well qualified employees can save the company more money than lower paid employees lacking experience.

I have been working at PacifiCorp full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

At one time PacifiCorp cared about their employees, those days are long gone. I have nothing good to say about this company. Pacificorp is becoming the last place that any linemen should be looking for work. Please read the reviews before you apply.

    Cons

Management is ruling with an iron fist and does not care about anything but the bottom line. The safety department has become a joke that encourages employees to not report accidents and incidents and will fire you either way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop running this company like an investment firm and run it like the regulated utility that it is.
