Pros
Good salary and fair benefits.
Cons
Union employees get everything, non-union employees get screwed.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop reducing benefits on non-union employees. Start recognizing employees more and bring back more employee events that allow people to get to know each other.
Pros
I tried to think what it could be and the only two things I can come up with is getting paid on time and going to work each day laughing of what management will dream up next.
Cons
Not good pay, management treats you like a dog, poor health benefits, good employees leaving as fast as they can. We are not respected even as a number all the company wants you to do is work till you drop while they take as much away from you as possible so warren buffet gets richer. The work moral is very bad. Upper management does not practice what they preach and they are always looking for a way to fire you which leads to no one wants to make a decision. They have a new company policy every day. So you need to spend half each day seaching and reviewing to keep from getting fired. It used to be a good place to work with your head up and standing proud.
Advice to Senior Management
Have some trust in your employees, everybody wants to do good, but it's hard to do when your in a constant threat. It's hard to understand that you take away health, pension and wages to the people that are making the company those record profits for warren. Does not add-up. This is one reason the world is where it is today!
Pros
So stable you would have to work at getting fired
Cons
Lots of dead-weight employees who are hanging on until retirement.
Pros
Excellent free online training for basic utility information for the non-engineering staff. Great opportunity to get a foot in the utility industry door.
Cons
Nepotism is rampant. More often than not, it seems that management is selected less on qaulifications and more on who is who.
Therefore, opportunities for advancement from within are limited. Network into a higher level position to get in the door.
Human Resource Department is not an advocate for the reguar employee, but the hammer for management.
Advice to Senior Management
Conduct regular Peer-Assessment of management staff.
Regularly check for adherence to policies and proper hiring practices.
Give training on appropriate workplace behavior, as most of the managers are non-supervisor (non-professional) material.
Pros
It's has great pay & is a union job. Also is based on seniority so its fair when it comes to schedules & advancement opportunities... The longer youre with the company the better perks...
Cons
Company Does not care about employees or situations that may arrive even with valid doctors notes. They will write you up for anything & look for excuses to fire you if not a brown noser.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to worry about their job & treatment of employees more then their next fishing trip. Management totally sucks & only care about themselves!
Pros
Pay is fair at best
Cons
Benefits are on the decline and management is constantly trying to cut more.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop cutting benefits
Pros
Decent pay and I dont have to stand in the employment line.
Cons
Insurance sucks! Give back the pensions that you threatened the employees with a lock out and then stole!
Advice to Senior Management
Quit crunching on labor. Profits are not infinite! There is a limit. Be realistic.
Pros
Interesting industry and many good people still work here despite mass exodus since MidAmerican bought the company 4 years ago.
Cons
Management says it supports employees and employee development, but that is just not the case. It's hard to get time off for training and if you don't get training, you can't advance. Workers are overloaded and stressed out because of the layoffs whend MidAmerican took over and the many workers who have left on their own in the last 4 years that have not been replaced. I am doing the job that used to be done by 3 people without any additional compensation or bonuses. They have cut benefits, taken away time off and slashed budgets. They say that it is because of the economy, but we had our best year of profits ever last year. This kind of contradiction makes me distrust management. There is also still a good ol boys network going on behind the scenes. Not that they don't promote women, but let's just say there are a lot of family members who work at the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Put your money where your mouth is. In a recent vdeo shown to the employees from the presidents, it talks about how you value employees and support training and internal advancement. If you truely believe it, then do it, or you really need to stop talking about it like you care because it only breeds distrust.
Pros
It beats being unemployed, barely. They take their business and money very, very seriously.
Cons
There are no employees at PacifiCorp. You are human resources, and like a tool you are to be used and thrown away. Management is accomplished via threats and not by respect.
The entire industry considers us a joke. When you interview elsewhere, they already know why you are trying to leave.
Overall pay has gone down. Bonuses were considered a standard part of pay prior to Mid-American taking over and are now 50% less. Career advancement is non-existent.
Budget goals are so arbitrary and so backwards that $20 calculators are a battle to get.
Everything is secret. People disappear with no communication as to what happened or why. It's simply not the type of environment conducive to employee growth, friendliness, or open communication.
Do not share concerns with management, they will use it against you. Keep your mouth shut and nose to the grindstone.
Advice to Senior Management
Understand that companies have a purpose other than making a buck. Scrooge learned that mankind is his business, but you have not. You can't improve the future by demanding so much of your employees and paying them so little that they can't raise their children (who are the tomorrow's employees). Respect has to be earned, not demanded.
Pros
Good location, co-workers, and tools to work with. . . . . . . . . . . . .
Cons
Poor leadership, career advancement, communications internally. People not willing to work together on many opportunities. . . . . .
Advice to Senior Management
Need more frequent and direct communications to front line employees. Videos are not sufficient. .. . . . . .
