Doesn't back up their employees decisions to make job planning and work methods efficient

    Lineman (Former Employee)
    Salt Lake City, UT

ProsCan't think of anyhting real positive.

ConsMicro manages. Differing departments do not interact well within the grades of higher authority. Every dept has their own kingdom but no accountability to higher authority.

Advice to Senior ManagementWorks by numbers but not by success. Of all the utilities, they are the worst for consistency in customer and contractor service, requirements and relationships.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Lots of used to be's.

    Lineman (Current Employee)
    Casper, WY

    ProsLots of OT and PTO.

ConsWarrren Buffet owned company. Nazi like safety policies. Management does not understand the actual work. Expects employees to work like contractors for worse pay and benefits. Used to be a great company but is steadily becoming one of the worst IOU's in the nation. Do not come here as a Lineman.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees like human beings and actually run this like the regulated business it is.

    OK place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsReasonable comp, interesting and changing industry.

ConsNegative culture driven from above. All about cost savings, often at the cost of real efficiency gains.

Advice to Senior ManagementEngage more with staff.

    Was a great growth opportunity.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsAmazing when owned by Scottish Power - very employee focused.

ConsNot so much under Mid-American. Completely stripped of all employee focused efforts, benefits, etc. Soul-less.

Working conditions, benefits, and wages have tanked since Warren Buffet bought the company.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsVery good training. Great employees.

ConsLow employee morale. Management that does not know the utility business.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit treating employees like they are assets and bring them in as part of the team.

    Was pretty happy to leave

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Portland, OR

    Pros- Jobs seemed pretty stable.
    - Some nice perks like free transit passes.
    - Everyone was professional.
    - Never had to work late, always got to leave at 5.

Cons- Very lackluster pay and benefits, not competitive at all in the tech field.
    - Soul-sucking culture, no employee focus AT ALL. Just a miserable place.
    - Work was slow, boring and mired in bureaucracy.
    - Very hierarchical structure.
    - Many people seemed pretty incompetent (although many were much the opposite).

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you treat people like brainless cogs, guess what kind of people you're going to end up with?

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
