    Pros

interesting field of business where there is no economic indicator to determine production will pick up or slow down.

    Cons

a little hot in the summer and loud work area

I have been working at Pacific Southwest Container full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good environment, new machinery, very clean work place. It seems as if there is a real opportunity to move up into management.

    Cons

Politics and favorites can be played from time to time. Also the pay is a little lower than most companies in this industry in this city.

    Advice to Management

Management is actually doing a pretty good job. They could set themselves up for better success with a little listening to the employees on the floor though.

I worked at Pacific Southwest Container full-time

    Pros

The industry is exciting to be a part of. You get to learn to processes of a product from beginning to end. The company pays for your lunch break, so you work 7.5 hours and are paid for break.

    Cons

The management is disrespectful, diminishing and has no interest in your personal improvement or advancement. Getting product out the door is their only concern (remember that employees manning the machines are what makes that happen) There are a couple great managers, hope that you are under their shift or you will be waiting to get off work the minute you clock in. There are mandatory Saturday shifts when production calls for it, which are good if you need some extra money and bad if you were hoping for a weekend. My first few weeks on the job, and still to this day, but most impactful during the first few weeks were complaints and questions from coworkers. "Why are you working here" "get out while you can" and the best was being introduced as a new employee and others would comment "I'm sorry" in a genuine, non comedic way. I only wish I would have taken those comments to heart, but they did not pierce the veil of beginning a new job. Employees are severely undervalued.

    Advice to Management

Advice to management would be to actively work to improve your production. Dont wait for the complaints to roll in then find someone to blame. Kaizens are a nice system, but when you dismiss ideas which are cost effective to implement, would increase performance speed, would increase product consistency and decrease labor demand on the process being improved, you render the Kaizen system useless. More advice to management - When annual inflation ranges from 1.6 - 4% , a miniscule raise to employee wages every three to five years won't cut it. Effectively while you are paying your employees a larger amount through the raise, they are consistently making less. Don't treat your employees like you are doing them a favor by having a company wide meeting to announce it, if you looked around the room at the response you would have seen the extreme lack of enthusiasm since the raise was long overdue and largely unimpressive. Also, make sure you know who you are putting in a position of authority, misuse or rather abusive of power affects the well being of employees. It's unfortunate the the top management is the worst culprits of all. Money-hungry and power-hungry are not bad attributes when it's for company improvement, not personal gain. I would give more advice to management, but based on company trend none of it will be utilized.

I worked at Pacific Southwest Container (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay. If you need long hours without a life outside of job.,This is the place

    Cons

Will take your job from you in a whim. You can be outstanding worker for years and all off a sudden new supervisors decide to let you go for made up reasons, non-truths. You may think you have a job that you can work at until you retire but you don't. Not under your control

    Advice to Management

Get real and don't let personal goals and friend ships effect your judgement Towards workers. Treat everyone equaly. Top management should evaluate lower supervisors and check out their performance personally. Walk the warehouse.

I have been working at Pacific Southwest Container full-time

    Pros

Most of the people you work with are great people and the pay is decent.

    Cons

Management are some of the most demeaning people I've ever met. The hours are also terrible, to many 12 hour shifts.

    Advice to Management

Trust your workers. Training should be given more focus not just around the time of outside audits.

    Pros

Great co-workers; great compensation and benefits. We also get a production bonus paid every 4 weeks. Kaizen process leads to good manufacturing improvements.

    Cons

It's a job-shop so the work sometimes fluctuates and we have to work consecutive Saturdays.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. We're in business and we all have jobs. Thanks!

    Pros

Fairly easy work, boring.. doing the same thing for hours..

    Cons

tacky and ghetto management. ran by a group of people who think they are saving the world.

    Advice to Management

Implement more of a employment system. Give each employee and opportunity to try other lines of work. Pay your workers more.

  11. Great capabilities are stifled by an autocratic owner

    Pros

High pay and good benefits...some senior managers are very talented. The equipment and knowledge workers are first rate.

    Cons

Owner meddles too much and does not let senior managers run the show. There are very talented individuals at this facility but the autocratic culture simply gets in the way of getting things done for the customer. Every customer contract must stand on its own merit....owner often wants employees to manage low margin buxiness with no incentive. Customers often complain about being nickle and dimed after the fact. Example of this is after the fact billing for tooling and prep charges. Order turn time is slow due to overly detailed IT and production systems.

    Advice to Management

    Stand up to the owner.
