    Life Drain.

    Author (Former Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

Pros- Some of the people that work here are pleasant to work with and do their job well.
    - They publish books for growing niche industries.

Cons- As an author you can handed off to new project managers countless times through a project, who are doubtless juggling many other projects at the same time.
    - They had me create materials for a disk that would come with the book along with references to the disk materials written into the book and then at the end of the production cycle they took the disk out to save costs, but left all the references to the missing content.
    - I created a technical art book for them and to save costs they printed the book in black and white even though there were throughout that relied on color, such as color wheels!
    - The pay turns out to be pennies on the hour after the many hours you put in and you don't collect royalties until after production costs are covered, which is never, considering they severely hurt the quality of your book with last minute decisions that destroy the integrity of the book.

Advice to Senior Management- Define clear objectives for the end product and stick to them, so that you don't waste you and your authors time and money.
    - Assign a point person that stays on for the duration of a project. Don't change the team up constantly throughout production.

    Definite lack of Technical Ability

    Author (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsLatest Technical Topics for Books - some are good, some are in poor format

ConsI started writing a cookbook almost 1 year ago - I wanted to write a real-world book, not a cookbook - Since then they have contacted me about writing the same book - its like they have 30 recruiters and no communication - Books are poorly edited with tons of grammatical errors -

    Excellent company to work with.

    Team Leader (Current Employee)
    Mumbai (India)

ProsPackt is a fantastic company to work with. With the great flexibility that it shows towards it employees, it becomes very easy to maintain work/life balance. Packt respects merit over tenure and it gets clearly visible by the promotions that happen of candidates who outperforms.. Packt is a great compamy for anyones who wants to learn, grow and be happy.

ConsPackt is growing company and is definitely doing excellent in its own way. It is one of the most employee friendly company i have worked with. Nothing to complain about.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue the way you are. More external hires will help.

Worst company to work with. not a place to build your career!

    EOM (Current Employee)
    Mumbai (India)

Proslow salary, flexible timings, unserious culture, underaged team leaders and option to work from home. Copy editors, project co-ordinators and technical editors(LTE's) get hired and fired every week. Author Acquisition editors & commissioning editors keep their job, however they arent sure about their job roles. and if they dont like u, 'ur performance is below par'.

Consgood looking girls have a chance of getting promoted over other long serving dedicated employees. New recruitements, office flings, awkward speeches every week are a few things to look forward to. Conclusion : job availability is proportional to desperation.

Advice to Senior ManagementServe your employees like you care about them, value their input and learn to respect: its mutual. How pathetic is it when u catch the senior most employee of your team flirting with girls on chat, in the parking, in pantry and after office? I hope the UK team looks into this before they lose more customers.

UK team good, mumbai managers are terrible thereby spoil the entire culture of the company.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

Prosgood exposure, casual dress code, flexible working hours,

Conspackt has a good number of incompetent managers who have got promoted as they were their boss's pet for wrong reasons or are very good at flirting around. most of these guys have been with packt for 3-4 years or more and so they are seniors and so they can very easily abuse their little power, get away do wrong things themselves and often dump the blame on team members. the sad part is the honest hard working folks working under these kind of managers have to go through hell for no fault of their own.

Advice to Senior ManagementUK team - please see what happens in the mumbai office when you are not around. you must consider firing most of your team leaders/managers who have been with you for 3+ or 4+ years. these are the ones who will spoil even the newly hired great managers. only then can you bring back you beautiful culture.
