Great people to work with, however, senior management has issues.

I have been working at Pala Casino

    Pros

Great people, excellent benefits. Interesting work atmosphere.

    Cons

Indecisive Management. Poor marketing strategy. Middle management left to fend for themselves. Vague policies & indifferent enforcement of policies. Working in a smoke-filled, noisy environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Involve middle management. Re-evaluate marketing strategy. Clarify policies.

I worked at Pala Casino full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Free meal during shift. Nice team members.

    Cons

Where do I begin? The phrase "big brother is watching" comes to mind. HR is horrible. Hate how they can "bend" the rules or simply not follow basic California Labor Policies simply because they're on sovereign land. Way too easy to get fired...too many policies and procedures that trickle down and don't get told to every person. And then you get into trouble if you don't follow something that you weren't made aware of by your senior management.

I have been working at Pala Casino full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great pay. People are generally happy to be there. Free meals. Discounted tickets to amusement parks and movies and lots more things. I have a great manager.

    Cons

Department is reactive to issues instead of proactive. Seniority means nothing in my department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lead by example. Motivate staff positively not by talking down.

I worked at Pala Casino full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pay well and provide 1 free meal per shift.

    Cons

Management does not work as hard as you do. Have to work weekends and Holidays when the managers and executives do not! Strict policies and outdated dress code and uniforms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come to work and stay for at least 8 hours. Your staff will respect you for it!

I worked at Pala Casino full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Free meals, good benefits, turkeys for the holidays

    Cons

They can make the rules or bend the rules as they go along. HR does not stick to the "rules" and is not there for the employees. Its all about the executives making all the money.

I worked at Pala Casino full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Free Lunch at the "Team member Dining Room"

    Cons

Internet activity, email are monitored and reported on. Strict limit to 30 minute lunch. Cell phone use limited to tiny out of the way "Employee Cell Phone" room that you can't get to and get back to your desk within your 10 minute break , period. Casino General Manager appointed his son as the Cheif Information Officer. One set of strict rules apply to the rank and file, another lax set of rules for management (Especially the CIO).
Example of strict rules: 1) You will be fired if you enter the Casino through the front door. 2) You will get fired if you stay home sick the day after Thanksgiving and don't have a written affidavit from a physician. 3) You will be written up if you take an extra 5 minutes at lunch. 4) You will be fired if a system you are responsible goes down, and you won't sign a paper accepting full blame.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit getting your jollies reading employee email communications and try to get some real work done.

    I worked at Pala Casino

    Pros

The best thing is that you get free lunch everyday

    Cons

24 Hour shifts kills the family life, promotions and shifts done by seniority so either someone quits or they die before you move on up the list.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start to care about your employees and reward them for a job well done.
