I worked at Palm Beach State College part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Make your own hours, enhance relationships with professors, reinforce educations

    Cons

Can be a waste of time if students don't show, their presence is based on whether or not they like you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More communication with professors for room times and keys

I worked at Palm Beach State College part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good pay for a part time job

    Cons

Have to kiss booty to get scheduled. Most of the instructors are obviously there for financial gains and to bully students. Very few take the time to inspire and encourage. Program director appears to have some social interaction and possible dependence issues. Administration is clueless.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a better job of picking lead instructors and program coordinators.

I have been working at Palm Beach State College

    Pros

    Pay is decent for adjuncts.

    Cons

You will need to get used to waiting for someone to contact you about a job. Took three years for someone to finally contact me. All my references were outdated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Become more involved with the selection of students. Don't make this seem like a business that is more interested in money than education.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Palm Beach State College full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great vacation during the year-- winter breaks and spring breaks are offered without having to use your own personal or vacation time. During Summer hours you have a 4 day work week (now 4.5 days). Great HMO offered for no cost to Full-time Exempt employee.

    Cons

Many people just employed for a job and not student-focused. Low preforming employees are retained. Lack of awareness or focus on topics of diversity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR -- GET IT TOGETHER. Evaluate performance. Support your managers. Fire those who under perform. Stop being so afraid of lawsuits.

I have been working at Palm Beach State College full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Look forward to spring break and Christmas breaks.

    Cons

Management moves staff around or harrasses them in order to push them out of department or to leave college.
Management supports management, but not employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave quality employees alone that are responsible and have an excellent work ethic and track record/ history. Keep an ear open to employee feedback from within the entire college to improve both personal and departmental management skills.
