    Pros

The patient is our number one priority in the O.R. and the my coworkers make everyday worth while.

    Cons

I believe that some of the supervising staff is a little excessive and that some are lacking general O.R. knowledge to be in a supervisor position.

    Advice to Management

Make sure people are competent with the general areas of their job before hiring them. I believe that the care of the patient is the number one goal so praise those who do it well!! I love working for this company!

    Pros

Palomar Health operates a beautiful new hospital in west Escondido, plus Pomerado Hospital and other satellite locations around north county.

    Cons

The health care district served by Palomar Health faces stiff competition from hospitals. This can sometimes mean that if census is down, hours get cut.

    Pros

There is a great amount of flexibility and the management is heavily invested in its staff. It's great atmosphere to work in.

    Cons

Of all the little frustrations that accompany the position there really is little that I could really complain about that wouldn't occur elsewhere. When it comes down to it, there are a few places that pay better, but I hear that we're treated far better. I could move for better pay, but I suspect I'd regret leaving.

    Advice to Management

This really is a great place, especially a great department, to work. There are a few things which people complain about, but the great thing is that management is receptive of it and really supportive of their staff.

    Pros

Extremely immersive program; interns get involved in direct patient care in state-of-the-art facilities. I have loved working here!

    Cons

The commute can sometimes be an issue, seeing as first-time interns can only work on a specific group of floors which generally are all at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido (PMC) but there are still opportunities to get into some of the closer hospitals. Most new interns work at PMC, however.

    Advice to Management

It can be a little difficult to contact management at times, but honestly I've only had that issue once or twice in the six months that I've been working here. Managements makes the whole application, induction, and work process fun and easy, which was fantastic.

I have been working at Palomar Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Before being hired full time, I spent about 18 months as a student volunteer. The staff has always been very helpful and receptive towards me. The training was thorough and educational. Palomar Health has a great atmosphere!

    Cons

At this point I do not see anything negative about this employer. (Most employers are experiencing challenges in todays economy. Palomar is no different..)

    Pros

The staff are amazing. Organization is innovative and embrace technology.

    Cons

Difficult to advance or get promotions. More about who you know rather than what you know.

  10. The only hospital employer I've ever had

I have been working at Palomar Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A nearly brand new hospital, so the equipment works and the facility is well maintained. Its a beautiful place to work.

    Cons

Since moving into the new hospital staff feel more anonomous, almost as if we are part of the equipment. Patient care staff are spread out and isolated with no central nursing stations, so professional comraderie and cohesiveness have suffered.

    Advice to Management

Staff need to feel that you know your job is to support them in their endeavor to provide excellent patient care. In this arena, management works for staff, not vice-versa. Valued staff that take pride in their work = high patient satisfaction!

    Pros

Management treats staff fairly. Staff are friendly once they get to know you. Health System striving to be competitive in todays fought health care market.

    Cons

Few opportunities to advance. There does not seem to be any interest in developing current staff into future leaders.

    Advice to Management

It would be nice to see the executives/ decision makers out with the people their decisions impact on a more frequent basis.
