    I worked at Panalpina full-time

    Pros

Great environment and people, interesting job.

    Cons

Low salary. Everyone in the office seemed to be living paycheck to paycheck. No room for advancement unless you're very willing to relocate.

    Advice to Management

Stop simply saying you appreciate your employees and show them you do.

    Pros

It does not have a corporate feeling, which gives you more freedom in what you are allowed to do. Not much red tape either.

    Cons

Management has a very high turnover. All the important decisions are made in Switzerland with little if any input from their regional operations. Computer systems are 30 years old. There is time and money to fix things, but never to do it right the first time.

    Advice to Management

The company just increased it's stock dividends. but employees don't get a salary increase. It's time to treat employees as assets, not an expense to be reduced.

  3. It's a horrible place. They play favorites. And very unprofessional. No type of true training. Book training is all

    Pros

The pay was great. Friendly people within the office. Great employee discounts. Good employee free meals but that's it

    Cons

Horrible training. They place a book in your lap and expect you to know & learn their particular system. The trainer is unprofessional

    Advice to Management

Get a better trainer. Have better communication policies set up and focus more on actual work versus personal feelings

    Cons

No training you either sink or swim... systems are prehistoric. .. stay away..

    Advice to Management

Keep your employees informed... don't wait till it blows up...

Kind of a time warp..... One of the biggest in the industry but behind the times.

I have been working at Panalpina full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is great flexibility in arranging one's hours. Hmm what they say and what they do... well which side of their mouth do they want to speak from???

    Cons

The organization is working to go paperless. However, there are LAYERS of redundancy wherein one is required to re-enter the same data multiple times. This creates an opportunity for errors and way too much file handling. There are long time employees clinging to the former ways of doing business. I am talking about 25-30 year employees attempting to block forward progress b/c it causes them to be uncomfortable. Deadwood is the word that comes to mind here. I get it that their experience is so valuable but the lack of flexibility and adapting to new more efficient ways of work is just bogging the entire organization down. This is 2014 not 1975. Let's get away from using crayons and brown paper bags.

    Advice to Management

As Larry the Cable Guy said "Stay on the porch if you cannot run with the big dogs". Integrate the programs to "talk" to each other and productivity will soar. How demoralizing to have to be a mutant simply re-entering the same data repeatedly... the employees are begging for some help. Productivity would be so much more but entirely bogged down in minutiae. The Big Cheese does not want to work like this... why would anyone else want to?? Come work in the trenches and see if you can hang... I am not a male nor am I Swiss, nor childless... therefore my opportunities to advance are pretty much nil.... you missed out people.

    Pros

Reasonable Benefits, Numerous offices, Exchange Program, business-unit-level support

    Cons

Management at multiple levels does not coordinate efforts(Corporate to Regional to Local), Business Unit Management is disconnected, HR seems fairly lax. (if you have a problem, you need to take control of it, and not rely on corporate.)

    Advice to Management

Get on the same page! We receive different direction on a daily basis about company goals from different representatives. This could be in regards to profit versus volume, PTO policies, and even customer relationships.

    Pros

    Talented people, good leadership training

    Cons

Changing strategies and focus frequently, too little focus on Customers, sales management in USA HDQ egotistical, not motivational leaders. Infighting between USA area and Americas region.

    Advice to Management

Focus on Customers and your employees only.

  11. Helpful (1)

Exhausting- be great to keep a consistent strategy for a year instead of changing it monthly.

    Pros

Leadership training that is afforded to managers, diversified workforce, health benefits.

    Cons

Lost concern for the customer. IT implementations are incredibly challenging and long, many times to the detriment of the customer. The direction and goals change too much. It takes a short time to get your team on-board but once you do,it changes again and the cycle repeats (very counterproductive). During the global layoffs, communication to the employees was inconsistent depending which department or country you worked in thus causing employees to work day to day on pins and needles. This distracted from the ability to concentrate on the customers.

    Advice to Management

Stick to what you preach. Don't keep changing your direction by the hour.
