I worked at Panasonic full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

My colleagues - professional and proud to work for Panasonic. The company offers a competitive salary and nice benefits package. I enjoyed working there for many years but the move to Newark made it too difficult for me to stay with the company because of the commute. I had several great managers but my last one was disengaged. I was disheartened to learn about recent layoffs in the consumer group. Lots of good people lost. I hope the company is on a successful path and remains competitive.

    Cons

Management could be a bit of a club although my dept. head treated his people well. Difficult to advance in a career. People stayed there because it was a great company; now I think people stay due to the poor job market.

    Pros

Great Name in Consumer Products. Great Benefits!
    Quality made products!
B2B is where to grow.....not consumer

    Cons

Management not hands on! Management clueless!
Company in crisis! Competition killing the company and company very slow to react
Consumer sales have dropped 10 fold in the last 5 years!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to key employees and don't waste your time with consultants that don't know the business, customers and Japanese Culture.

I worked at Panasonic full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Fast paced environment with great products and a rich history of innovation. Very customer focused and interested in developing products that the customer demands.

    Cons

Like many large corporations, the comp plan perpetually changes and rarely (if ever) to the benefit of the sales team. Fluctuations in territory, vertical focus, and management were unrelenting, making it difficult to get into any kind of groove. Very political...the "in-crowd" or "good old boys" network made it appear that in order to advance, you must fall in line with the aforementioned. Otherwise, you were relegated to a role that did not offer much in the way of advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat the field people a bit better in the form of proper training, consistent compensation plan, and carefully articulated career path planning.

    Pros

Good Benefits. The total package is very good

    Cons

Environment. When Joe Taylor said "He would never put people in harm's way" at a town hall meeting It appears thet was not true. He also said "Newark is safer than New York city". Sorry both cases are not true. As to the first the new facility is next door to a Methadone Clinic in the Joe Pepe building next door. AND last week a female employee was accosted on the linkway connecting the building with NJ Penn Station. And as to the second point, IF you research crime stats you will find that Newark is MUCH more dangerous than New York City in just about every category of crime. The bottom line is that Secaucus was FAR SAFER than the new location. Penn Station is a den of homeless and beggars as well. Thanks for "placing us in harm's way afterall.

Petition the mayor of Newark to provide ample security for your employees.

    Pros

Very laid back, loved the rejuvenation room and the cafe is HUGE! Easy commute and free parking.Comp good - I was getting paid very well as a co-op.

    Cons

Seemed like a dead end type of job I worked in the warranty department and every one there seemed to be a lifer. had an awkward encounter with an employee there who was too over bearing.

Former Employee - Human Resources Generalist Intern in Newark, NJ

I worked at Panasonic as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

I was only an intern here the summer. However, I must say that it is a very friendly atmosphere with employees who are very willing to assist you if you need it. The new open floor layout gives a view of Newark that is mesmerizing. They do offer flexibility with working at home, so they are making an attempt to take work-life balance into account.

    Cons

Being an intern I was asked to do a lot of tasks but the tasks they I was giving I couldn't complete. I was never granted access needed in the HRIS to complete the required tasks. I felt I had to constantly bother other HR members so I could gain access using their user name and passwords

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be afraid to take a chance and hire some of the interns you bring in. You are lacking new and fresh ideas, the kind that young blood could bring in.
