I worked at Pandemic Studios full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Pandemic changed my life, and there's not many companies that I can say that about. The comeradie and dedication that everyone at this company had to making the most awesome games imaginable was breathtaking. The culture of learning and improvement made working there a joy, all of it bottom-up initiatives suggested by employees and embraced and empowered by management. I wouldn't change a moment of working there.

    Cons

The money was terrible, the benefits were terrible, the hours were incredibly long. And none of that mattered, because it was the best place on Earth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

EA, you let this gem go too soon (which you probably suspect, given how many vets of Pandemic went on to Riot Games and 343 Studios.) Sure, they'd made some mistakes -- big ones -- but rarely had I seen a company take such immediate steps to correct those errors and move in the right direction.

I worked at Pandemic Studios full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pandemic was a great place to get a start in the industry for lots of game developers. The culture created some tight knit friendships that last to this day.

    Cons

The upper management created an environment where project directors and senior staff were very disconnected from reality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slow and steady wins the race.

I worked at Pandemic Studios full-time for less than a year

    Pros

My coworkers there were a fantastic bunch. Everyone was passionate about the projects they were on and most everyone was highly skilled at what they did. However, there were many questions about the creative direction of certain projects and things seemed to always change on a whim.

    Cons

While it was a great opportunity at first, things quickly went down on the project I was working on. Luckily, I missed out on the worst.

I worked at Pandemic Studios full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Smart people, some internal technology was really great, decent compensation, good location, some games were innovative, surprisingly good support from EA while it lasted.

    Cons

Lack of direction which led to unproductive long crunches, some internal technology was terrible and undercut production, there was a company-wide overestimation of the company's actual capabilities, and no system for identifying and replacing bad managers.

    Pros

Great people to work with, fun parties

    Cons

upper managment was a joke, they didn't know how to manage a project. Lots of favoritism, which caused projects to go on for twice as long

    I worked at Pandemic Studios

    Pros

Overall a good experiance. Real solid folks with great practices, a had trouble scaling and putting proper people in roles of authority

    Cons

Projects were not given proper triage, priorities were not communicated clearly to staff. Great people doing great work on bad ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more attention on people working closely with the material and put less weight to the old guard producers turned managers
