I have been working at Pandora Media (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Solid management, organizational development is strong. Fantastic culture and good people

    Cons

Sales goals are out of touch. Engineering and product teams don't innovate fast enough.

I worked at Pandora Media as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome company culture. Most of the people were laid back and a pleasure to work with. My manager was very invested in my career development. I felt like I could be myself here. Very positive work environment and good resources. Any issues/problems were addressed quickly.

    Cons

Sometimes the communication across teams and departments isn't great. It can feel like a big company sometimes in the sense that there can be bureaucratic nonsense when trying to accomplish something (this happened rarely). Certain teams have high turnover rates which might contribute to the aforementioned issues.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. Improve communication across teams. Continue to be invested in your interns' career development, be it at Pandora or another opportunity!

I have been working at Pandora Media full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Culture! Volunteer time off. Lots of Employee Interest groups (PERGS) to choose from. If you love music, you'll be in the right place. Artists perform small concerts for employees weekly.

    Cons

Very aggressive sales goals pulled out of a hat. Account Ownership land grab. Some aspects are like the Wild West.

    Advice to Management

Need to provide more structure around how accounts are inherited when sellers leave. Have seen a large imbalance where accounts don't go to more experienced sellers, just sellers they like.

    Pros

Overall leadership is good. The location great and the offices are very nice. The product is excellent and it was nice to work at a company where you value and use the product.

    Cons

Nepotism is rampant and there is blatant favoritism and double standards. Overall lack of diversity is surprising considering they are based in Oakland.

    Advice to Management

Walking around with a pretend smile on your face doesn't make you happy - it really is not all about perception

I have been working at Pandora Media full-time

    Pros

Pandora is a great place to work. It is really a culture of music lovers. I have never worked a a place with such a diverse work background (musicians, artist, designers, sales people, engineers, scientist, business people, analyst). The company is growing so everything is pretty fast paced. There is no 401K matching BUT - employees get a discount on stock which more than makes up for that. Work/Life balance is also pretty good right now. Working in Uptown is cool and the office space is pretty nice. There's also the free snacks + pizza and cake for the company meetings once a month.

    Cons

Since the company is growing there is the opportunity to have more processes in place to drive efficiencies. The different departments also have the opportunity to become more integrated. Again, being a relatively new company - they also don't provide great training for employees. I do think all will be fixed in time.

    Advice to Management

To keep the best of the best think about how you can better invest and develop your people. Those people will always want to push and keep learning vs. resting on their laurels (is that the right phrase??)

I have been working at Pandora Media (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fantastic, motivated people with shared goals, true transparency from the executive level, actual work/life balance (not just a jargon term to get people to work here), flexibility, upward mobility

    Cons

Too many delicious snacks (I have gained 5 lbs)

I have been working at Pandora Media full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The smartest UNIX and Networking people with which I've worked. Open Source Production Environment. The CIO on up are friendly and approachable. Massive budgets - You can have all your toys. "Everything is Awesome" - The Cai Culture.

    Cons

Too much culture - IT takes a back-seat if the employees don't like an idea. More people simultaneously talking than Briton's Parliament. East Coast salary (but does have stock and bonus structure) - you still have to pay the bills. Long-Timers don't want you touching their "Baby". The Development team is wholly uncooperative.

    Advice to Management

Take some of that unlimited budget and increase the salary to a meet Bay Area Cost of Living.

I have been working at Pandora Media full-time

    Pros

Respect for work-life balance in a very competitive streaming music space. Slow but steady outlook towards business growth and monetization

    Cons

Waning confidence in our ability to remain market leaders. No revolutionary product implementations since inception, though some good ideas starting to bubble up.

    Advice to Management

Monetary incentive to over-deliver on deadlines. Hedge the growth of some seemingly superfluous teams. Continue to work towards making advertising palatable, especially audio advertising.
