Pros
Where to begin...if you like having Migranes, Ulcers and all manner of Stress related ailments, then this place is right for you.
Cons
See the Pros column. The back stabbing between employees is growing every day due to Management's inability to lead this company. Many current employees were given letters stating they will be "safe" till June 2011, then they too will be let go. The only reason they are staying is to train their International counterparts to take THEIR job. What a kick in the pants. And now Panduit has a street named after them on 191st at the entrance of the new Pan-Palace...make sure your car has a barf bag when you pass by!
Advice to Senior Management
Why bother? I don't believe the family has much say in how this company is run anymore. I believe they are hoping that Cisco will buy them out.
Pros
Clean, had some nice benefits, had job security, used to be a fun place to work and had many long term employees.
Cons
Since Caveney's have been backing out of operation, the enormous amount of VP's have done all they can to drive the company into the ground. No trust, loyalty, like it used to be. Alot of people that helped to build company to where its at, now being tossed out. Too bad, as said in other posts, many good people will be leaving once jobs open up. Walk around today and alot of people are updating resume and searching jobs while at work. Not too productive.
Advice to Senior Management
Wake up, look at TOTAL cost of moving products out of country, see transportation costs, service and quality all going in wrong direction. The normal spend $10 to save $5 is going fast and furious throughout. Wake up, go back and check some ROI's and see if company is really making money now. Jack / John, its not too late.
Pros
Close to home, no train, new headquarters in March, flex-time, some remaining benefits, great coworkers (for the most part), ample parking, on-site cafeteria, some senior managers that recognize the importance of developing and promoting employees.
Cons
As mentioned in every other review, the shipment of so many production jobs overseas and frequent layoffs are creating a very uneasy (to say the least) environment. Many are being asked to increase their workload tremendously through the layoff periods and we have not even been given yearly living standard raises for two years. Benefits are being stripped left and right, big surprise, but its always the same old company line of still being "in alignment" with the rest of the industry. First level management is extremely incompetent yet this seems to be completely overlooked or just not that important to top management. Long time employees who dedicated their entire careers to turning the company into what it is today are being dismissed shamelessly, but somehow certain employees are able to get away with being unproductive 6 hours a day. Senior management is very secretive and information is not shared or communicated AT ALL. Overall, I go in every day and am very committed to my job and responsibilities, but my attitude towards the company has turned increasingly negative over the past year.
Advice to Senior Management
I don't know what to say. Feedback is always asked for but never acknowledged. Many in my area are not happy with the company's direction and if the current atmosphere lingers, many talented people are going to leave when the economy improves.
Pros
friendly-like a family benefits, pay isn't bad. they work around time needed off
Cons
if management doesn't like you, they can make it rough on you. and now not sure when you'll have a job from day to day
Advice to Senior Management
To Jack Caveney, remember your family didn't get this far by themselves, there are alot of dedicated people who have given up alot to help you.
Pros
A real 'from the ground up' company that has done well in the world. There used to be a very positive family attitude to what was going on. You felt like you were 'going places'.
Cons
All of the changes that are happening - sending jobs overseas. It's hard to believe that it has come to this. I respect the people overseas who will be making our product, but I wish it didn't mean the end of jobs for so many in Tinley Park and New Lenox.
Advice to Senior Management
Be honest with the employees.
Pros
you used to be treated like part of the extended family, but that's not been the case for many years
Cons
Decisions being made at upper levels are going to negatively impact many working families who have relied on Panduit for many years.
Advice to Senior Management
Rethink some of the decisions that have been made, particularly in outsourcing hundreds of jobs simply to improve the bottom line.
Pros
Great People
Privately owned
Innovative
Growth opportunities and competitive pay
Cons
Communication could be better
Heavy workloads
Reactive
Advice to Senior Management
Make SMART Goals SMART
Develop your people and give them recognition for jobs well done.
Pros
It's all about the people and the committment to their mission. Great educational opportunity and through the years, employees would be rewarded for their fairness to the company.
Cons
No structure with the new management style to manufacturing and economic growth. The company developed well, just got lost in our changing world.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to others and allow feedback from your team while analyzing the next test to implement. Sorry to say, the plan was lost.
Pros
The employees and the Illinois locations. Panduit makes a very good product but they also usually charge more than their competitors. When Jack was running the company it was a great place to work! I remember when I used to tell people I worked at Panduit they would say, wow! Whoever is running the company now (kids?) has ruined it.
Cons
Most of the managers were incompetent & did not have good people skills. They only got their positions because they were friends with their bosses. The company keeps cutting benefits. Older employees are replaced for newer (and lesser paid) employees regularly. I was let go in 1999 after 22 years there. Looking back, they did me a favor but I have many friends that are still there that are being affected by the closings. I guess it was just a matter of time...
Advice to Senior Management
It is too late to give advice. They have mostly given up on their workers in the US & decided to use foreign labor. The great company that it once was is no more...
Pros
use to be a good company to work for, when business was booming. Management has fallen over the last ten years.
Cons
Too many stories of how no one would loose their jobs, especially at the WC division. I feel really bad for anyone who has worked out there. They have been around the longest, and they have made Panduit what it is today. What a great reward for them, move their jobs to Mexico/Costo Rica.
I cannot believe that a company like Panduit, which is global, dismisses their employees like it is nothing. If it wasn't for their employees they would be nothing. Just remember it is not how many times you get kicked to the ground, it is how many times you can still get back up. Good luck to everyone who has made this company what it is, and then gets let go. And now New Lenox is closing down, and also being moved to Mexico/Costo Rica, what's next ? Every division better take a number because your turn is coming.
Advice to Senior Management
We need management who can tell the truth, lies are not the way to go, no matter what the cost.
You are just upsetting your employees. Just be honest. Is that too much to ask.
