    Crappy minimum wage job

    Anonymous (Former Employee)

ProsMade some good friends with my fellow employees

ConsThe pay is terrible, management is lazy and will ask you to do more things if you work hard. If your lucky you will get a 15 cent raise

Advice to Senior ManagementCorporate should actually spend some time in the stores. They always come up with new ideas that aren't feasible for employees to execute.

Negative Energy outweighs positive energy towards employees

    Catering Coordinator (Current Employee)

ProsYou learn very quickly whether you have what it takes in the restaurant business

ConsBiggest challenge is realizing upper management will always focus on what you're doing wrong instead of what you're doing right. It can turn your energy negative.

    Bad all around

    Associate Trainer (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsThe company has good ideas. Panera Cares is great, and doughnation is also really good. The work is easy to learn and to do.

ConsThe people in charge are constantly making "improvements" to the way things are done that may sound good on paper, but are awful in real life. They have clearly never worked outside of the desk. There is also a big "promote from within" campaign, but I've only met maybe three people that have worked their way up from associate to assistant manager with a sample size of four stores.

Advice to Senior ManagementActually do the work before changing the work. We're only people.

    Eh

    Specialist (Current Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsCasual Dress Code, amazing! My department is really good about work-life balance and allowing flexible hours

ConsThe salary isn't very competitive. The benefits aren't much to speak of, the associate pays a large ($$$) portion of the premium. Growth/promotional opportunities are really lacking. They tend to hire outside when given the chance. They were trying "summer hours" which was great especially if you have children but just recently took that away. There is a large push toward technology in the cafes, unfortunately most of what we do is all still in excel.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe NO Jerks policy that is considered one of the companies core cultural values is absolutely a joke. Some of the associates speak so terribly that I'm in shock. They send threats and demands and it's just awful. I often wonder if I would speak to anyone in the world the way they speak to co-workers or their employer. It's truly disheartening.
