Cool coworkers, the managers are understanding as long as you listen, but aw god the pay.

Dish Washer, Dining Room, Production Line (Current Employee)

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time for less than a year

ProsMy coworkers are fun to talk to, I have some down time where i can strike up conversations.
Managers are understanding about your feelings but do let me know things that NEED to be done.
Some customers are considerate.
Able to move around and learn how to work in different areas of the store.
50% discount on food if you're working that same day.
If you're happy doing what you do, and do a great job the managers are great to you.
Management is understanding and is flexible to let me do important things when i can't work.

Cons50% discount on the food ONLY when you work.
The pay isn't all that satisfying. 8.10 an hour.
Some customers are inconsiderate no matter how nice the morals of the company you're representing is.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow more training to those who need it, and have more talks with the associates struggling to catch up rather than letting them sink or swim. It's currently happening to a coworker.

The people you work with are fun; the job itself is not.

Line Associate (Former Employee)
Brookfield, CT

I worked at Panera Bread part-time for more than a year

ProsHours are super flexible and they usually take into consideration days you request off. The people you work with are great (usually)

ConsConstant switching of managers, not a lot of hours, pretty unfair when it comes to raises.

Worst job

Cashier/Barista (Current Employee)

I have been working at Panera Bread part-time for more than a year

ProsThere were very little pros to working here. Discounts on food, diversity in coworkers, free soda, and learn new skills.

ConsPoor management, low pay, lots of work leading to exhaustion, little to no recognition for achievements, unstable scheduling, rude customers, lack of flexibility and benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe sure to note that when the "big cheeses" show up, managers put on an act.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Some great managers but low pay

Associate Trainer (Current Employee)
Madison, WI

I have been working at Panera Bread part-time for more than a year

ProsMoved up to trainer very quickly,
Good discounts on food which was nice in college.
Managers look to cross train and add more responsibility which I liked

ConsPay begins around $8/hr
Closing can take much longer than planned depending on your store
Can be crazy busy over lunch
High turnover leads to extra hours

Advice to Senior ManagementPay new associates more to reduce turnover.

Life at Panera

Cashier/Barista (Former Employee)
Shawnee, KS

I worked at Panera Bread part-time for less than a year

ProsThe discount is awesome. The learning experience is nice. You get to make a bond with your coworkers. You get to learn how to be a barista.

ConsIf you have to close and you are the dishwasher. It's very hard and rough. Some people don't help even though it's suppose to be a team. It was very hard for me to stay because it literally wore my body out. Managers do pick favorites.

They will use you

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Panera Bread for more than 10 years

ProsGreat concept to work for. If you have the chance build your own team from within and avoid being set with a team.

ConsJvp's are greedy. All about numbers not about people.

Advice to Senior ManagementMaybe background checks on staff as we'll. It appears panera hires drug uses and then promotes them. No background/ drug checks on those promoted from within.

An entry level job with much work involved.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Panera Bread

ProsThe job training lays out exactly what is expected of each associate. It is very easy to learn and you will pick up on whatever with ease.

ConsCustomers tend to give you quite the dis-pleasant attitude so be prepared to never let the smile down. The tasks do become quite repetitive but being constantly busy will make the hours go by faster.
