I worked at Paraccel full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Sr Managers brought decades of experience to a start-up environment.

    Cons

With the merger with Actian, much of that experience was lost. Needs to be more nimble in a new market.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retain, retain, retain. Talent is bleeding. Hiring the best SE's will beef up the sales team.

I have been working at Paraccel full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The co-workers are great. The product has a lot of potential.

    Cons

Lack of process/planning with software releases, which leads to software development teams making decisions on what goes into the product.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a plan/schedule and share it with the company.

Decent place to work if you worked with the gang at Red Brick/Informix/IBM

    I worked at Paraccel full-time

    Pros

Compensation is slightly above industry average, although raises are few and far between. They do have a potentially generous bonus program, but frequently change the methods for awarding bonuses. Most coworkers are very intelligent and nice people to work with.

    Cons

Many of the employees worked together previously at Red Brick/Informix/IBM, which leads to gossip, cliques, and politics. There's an overall culture of blame and finger pointing that carries down from management. Some managers are control freaks with a strong tendency towards micromanagement. Product Management is non-existent; every so often they try to come up with a product roadmap, but this is ignored in favor of being reactionary and firefighting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look outside of the former Red Brick crowd when hiring. Provide a mechanism for employees to safely give feedback about their managers. And please, please, hire a couple of product and/or project managers and let them do their jobs.

    No plan.
    No revenue.
