I have been working at Paradise Valley Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Supportive team, flexibility with schedule, staff are always open to new ideas

    Cons

Not great pay for hospital - raises appear to be negotiable during evals but get denied quickly with a general 3% only raise approved.

    Advice to Management

Better raises to keep talented staff from leaving to go to a competitor

    Pros

Everyone is nice and helps you out. You are not punished if you don't know something. The charge nurses are super awesome! No matter what the unit is, the boss is always nice. The nursing supervisors are great too.

    Cons

Management is really scrutinizing employees right now because they are trying to unionize. Employees feel they are being watched constantly and Security guards are everywhere.

    Advice to Management

Calm down about the Union stuff. It's not going to get anywhere anyway. Have faith in your employees. If you treat them right they won't unionize.

I worked at Paradise Valley Hospital full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It has a down to earth feel, people are real no airs

    Cons

very short staffed yet held to an account of the work of 4 people, it is managed by dictators they could care less about the staff when things go down it will be you, never the ways of the hospital over staffing. It is the least paying hospital in all of san diego county yet is the most profitable

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, be fair and just. Stop the clicks between management against its employees

I have been working at Paradise Valley Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good team work-same level. Learn a lot from co-worker NOT from the management.

    Cons

Poor management and no support. Management love to "talk" but no action has been done. Favortism, refuse to let nurses who is willing to perform to step up. Problem arise but management refused to acknowledged. P/S: In order to obtain a MAGNET status hospital, you need to treat your nurses RIGHT!!!

    Advice to Management

Listen and share thought with employees. Action needs to be taken to resolve problems-not by just letting it "slide". Equal opportunity to everyone not FAVORTISM!

I have been working at Paradise Valley Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Young, energetic new grads that are eager to please and are still afraid to get into trouble and disobey.

    Cons

Not enough gated employee parking spots. Not enough patient / visitor parking spots. employees have to park on the dark, busy, neighborhood streets. Too many foreign languages spoken by staff on the units in front of patient's, visitors and other staff members that could be misinterpreted as being rude and insulting.

    Advice to Management

Don't wait too long before giving out merit awards or raises.

    Pros

The ancillary staff work hard because they are locals.

    Cons

The hospital is geared toward one concept. High billing techniques. The owner of the hospital system has an elaborate setup to make sure that all staff are maximizing billing for the hospital. If someone shows up with confusion they upbill it to encephalopathy for example The staff including the hospitalists and the nephrologist have one goal in mind which is to line their pockets and to use and abuse any new doctors who come on board. Then they make the new doctors take care of the majority of the patients and when that doctor becomes overwhelmed, they let the said doctor leave.

    Advice to Management

Avoid PVH at all costs. They only hospitalize you if there is a financial advantage.

  10. Majority of the coworkers and ancillary staff are nice. Everything else...there's always room for improvement.

I have been working at Paradise Valley Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You learn to grow and advance in the company at a fast pace because you're forced to take charge at unexpected times. The coworkers are supportive, friendly, and make sure you don't fall behind. The supervisors that I've worked with are very supportive of you as well. It's not a bad place to start if you're a new grad, considering you'll get a lot of support from people and experience. Personally, I haven't heard any stories of the whole "eating their young" in any department.

    Cons

$$/hr. Some doctors are questionable and don't respect staff members (patients included) at all. They seem to just let you deal with problems that are theirs or throw you under the bus, then you're the one cleaning up their mess. The employee benefits could use some improvement.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees better and maybe even take consideration of what staff say about who they work with.

I have been working at Paradise Valley Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Happy staff. Everyone likes working there and everyone helps everyone else. Don't know something? Just ask the person next to you. Everyone is happy to help.

    Cons

Low pay and lousy healthcare. There are no healthcare options really, you have to use what they tell you and if you have problems and need a specialist you have to wait a long time to get approved.

    Advice to Management

Get better healthcare options for employees
