Pros
The people are by far the best reason to work at PTC, where it is easy to build a strong team and coworkers work well together. It is an exciting and dynamic workplace for Global Services professionals.
Cons
The work-life balance for GS professionals can make the job difficult. The job requires employees to spend the majority of the week on travel to remote job sites.
Advice to Senior Management
The company has had inconsistent priorities over the last 5-10 years, with executive management appearing not to fully understand nor successfully plan our business. Instead it has felt as if they are often reacting to unexpected situations as they happen, resulting in confusion and lack of confidence from employees (and often losing key employees because of this). It seems to be getting better, with a more proactive, rather than reactive, approach to our strategy. While it is important to challenge the organization, it is also important to build the confidence of our investors and show that we are and will be the leader in our industry.
Pros
Good place to learn about software sales
Cons
Incompetence of middle management
Package is a mirage
Very poor ratio revenue/pressure
Advice to Senior Management
Being more objective and involved on the field instead of staying at the office doing politics and learning the latest blackberry or Iphone features
Pros
relaxed culture, anything goes mentality, can work from home when ever you want
Cons
This company is old and tired. Nothing ever gets done. Top management isn't that great and most employees have no real career path. Most of the Needham building is empty with a lot of development being done in pune. Not all employees are bonus eligable.
Advice to Senior Management
Hopefully Jim can do a better job at the helm than Dick.
Pros
Flexible timings, good resources ..
Cons
There are so called technical path and managerial paths for growth in QA.... rest assured if you are tech guy you wont get any thing neither will you be valued.......
collaboration means do what the lead wants.....
no space for tech leads...
Advice to Senior Management
Need to value the tech guys
Leads (non tech) should understand to collaborate with tech leads...
Pros
PTC is a good place to start a career. There are plenty of mentors for entry-level employees and it is mostly a young and invigorating group of people you will be working with.
Cons
Things change at a quick pace so flexibility is a must.
Advice to Senior Management
Give your employees a little heads up when things are going to change.
Pros
great benefits & flexible work schedule; management very in tuned to work/life balance & it shows! I am extremely satisfied with my career & enjoy the people that make up our team. We all have great confidence in eachother & can rely on one another when things get tough.
Cons
Employee recognition process is not clear. hard to tell why same people get recognized all the time & others never do
Advice to Senior Management
Informal positive feedback goes a long way
Pros
Teamwork is valued. If I need help with a problem, I feel comfortable asking for assistance from people beyond my immediate group.
Management understands that sometimes you just need a vacation, and scheduling vacations is easy.
The IT department is competent, and non-intrusive. I've got a ton of self-installed software on my machine, and no one's said a word.
Instant messenger use is encouraged. The interview was fun.
The environment is relaxed. There's plenty of parking, and now there's special parking spots for Hybrid vehicles next to the handicapped spots, near the entrance.
Cons
Sometimes the work has kept me late, and sometimes I feel very, very busy. It can be stressful.
Sometimes the cafeteria has nothing good to eat. There's no hot chocolate in the kitchens.
Advice to Senior Management
No one'll ever turn down a pay raise.
Pros
The pay is very competitive. If you're in the right position you get many opportunities to control the direction of the products. They aren't afraid to try new technologies but typically takes years for them to make it into a shipping product.
Cons
Layoffs can happen after a bad quarter. Very typical corporate environment. Heavily into outsourcing so most meetings are held via conference call. Hours spent on the phone! Company is run by a salesman so everything is driven by the sales organization - sometimes to the detriment of R&D. They would think nothing of laying off key people in the middle of a project if it made the numbers work for Wall St.
Advice to Senior Management
Shorten the product release cycle.
Pros
Strong product portfolio, stable company
Cons
Old technology and resistance to change some of the core technologies in product development.
Advice to Senior Management
- Encourage newer models/technology in product development.
- Expand into other similar domains.
Pros
Although benefits have weakened over the years, PTC still offers reasonably good benefits to employees. Folks are generally very talented and hard working, without excessive political infighting filtering down from upper management (I'm sure it exists, though).
Cons
As a mid-cap public company, it operates at the whim of investors. A missed quarterly target can easily result in layoffs just to keep shareholders happy. And it definitely has the big company feel - very hard to be agile.
Advice to Senior Management
The company's aggressive growth strategy and focus on financials can be dispiriting, especially when overly-aggressive targets can not be reached by employees pushing themselves to the limit.
