I have been working at Park University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Provides undergraduate, graduate and online degrees at an affordable price.

    Cons

It's a not-for-profit school so salaries are a little below average.

I have been working at Park University as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Great school! Great history but not stuck there. Very team driven, great interaction with administration, very little paperwork and lots of opportunity to teach. This is a school which is faithful to our service men and women and maintains honor as the highest code. Great place to work.

    Cons

There really are none. It took 2 years to get off the waiting list, but I suppose that is because no one leaves since its such a great place to work.

I worked at Park University full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Excellent departmental management, great tuition remission program.

    Cons

School is currently having some financial issues, interdepartmental conflict is rarely-if ever-addressed, little to no chance of moving up unless someone dies or retires. The pay is a little low for the amount of work that most employees are expected to do. With layoffs and shake-ups, you're picking up a LOT of slack from other departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No training program for new employees...it's not a great idea to just throw your noobs to the wind when they've never worked in higher education! Quit listening to middle managers and actually hire an outside company to deal with restructuring after layoffs...the way the voluntary layoffs were handled caused more harm than good for the students.

I have been working at Park University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Small feel to this university. Friendly staff. Loyal to employees. Supportive of student needs as well.

    Cons

Part-time adjuncts are NOT paid on a monthly basis. Rather, they are paid once during the middle of semester, and once on completion of the semester, which translates to a bit less than every two months. For Greater Kansas City area this rate is a little below the norm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider, revising the pay structure for part-time adjuncts.

I worked at Park University full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Leadership in my department was good for the most part
    Salary is decent
    Benefits are really good
    Personal growth is an option

    Cons

    Too many chiefs (or wannabes)
    Budge issues scare me
Upper management needs to listen more

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have too many people "in charge"
    Back off on Titles
Significance needs to be on the students
All departments need to be on the same page, in the same book
    Training, training, training!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I worked at Park University

    Pros

My experience was what higher education should be like: collegial. The culture was good, and my colleagues were supportive. I didn't experience any of the competitiveness or back-stabbing that was my experience in previous institutions. I'm not saying that there was no "political" behavior by faculty, but that it was far more limited than the usual.

    Cons

Pay was somewhat lower than usual, and the workload was somewhat higher than optimal. However, that's the case in most of higher education. Organization was "top-heavy", and the staff was overworked. Most people were pulling together to do their best, but the load can't continue in the long-term.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Top management team needed to set aside their personal agendas and support the President to do what's best for the University. If not, they should be replaced.

    I worked at Park University

    Pros

I was excited to teach there....large class and very active. Grades were pretty good except for one.

    Cons

Forced to regrade a student's papers without discussing the issue with me. I don't want to work under those conditions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The tail is wagging the dog....not good. Office personnel should not make decisions involving grades.

I have been working at Park University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

If you work on campus, it's a safe, pretty place. If you work online, it offers the convenience of working from anywhere.

    Cons

Concerns relate chiefly to relatively low salaries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue but accelerate the path to "transparency" initiated 4 years ago.
