    Revolving Door of Management

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Cleveland, OH

ProsWork relatively non-challenging, holiday / vacation compensation, 401K match, if management has an affinity toward you strong likelihood you will become a "lifer". Very little more to add to the "pros" of working at Parker-Hannifin except name recognition of a large industrial company.

ConsManagement in a constant stat of flux, routinely changing every year, employees lack desire to improve / grow, company focused on M&As with little understanding on how to grow organically, training was non-existent, little incentives for employees to "do more", expectations were always a moving target therefore ability to exceed was not an option. Male dominated management structure.

    Driven by performance plans.

    Anonymous (Former Employee)

ProsFantastic benibenibenefits plans, bonuses and opportunities if you are in the right place with good upper managers.

ConsManagemenphilosophy ist and their subordinates are all driven buy a "PPP" parker performance plan. They can have little to do what needs to be done. Annual reviews can contain petty comments instead of constructive criticism.
Corporate philosophy is to purchase company rather than to invent something.

Advice to Senior ManagementEngineer success, not purchase it at the expense of the United States job market.

    Large variety of opportunities

Senior Quality Assurance Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsPay and Bonus system is generous; generally get an increase once every 2 years. Performance review done quarterly with specific numbers to hit based on division or location operating performance. Corporate organization and requirements are flexible enough to apply to a large variety of operations and sizes of divisions. Freedom to do what makes sense for your industry / market / region. Technical resources available if you know how to work through complicated cooperate systems to find the right info or person. Offer a large variety of training opportunities. Lots of opportunity for advancement if you are willing to change locations and positions. (Easy to find job postings)

ConsLots of cultural variation from one division to another, however long hours and lifestyle inflexibility are very common. Strong "good old boys" network can interfere with implementation of large and small scale improvements.

    Only grow through acquisitions.

    Design Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsWork schedule is not too stressful. Lots of different divisions to move around to. Lots of steps on the management rung.(not sure if that is a pro)

ConsMust move up or out. Most management comes from other divisions and does not have knowledge of the division they are managing. It seems most divisions focus only on taking cost out of existing products, not growing new business with new products.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend more time learning the division and staying in one spot. It will help with organic growth.

Parker takes great care of their employees. There are plenty of opportunities and new challenges every day.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros-Fair and stable employment with good salary and benefits
    -Many opportunities for advancement
-Huge corporation, so again, the opportunities are vast

Cons-Lots of 'experienced' individuals that at times can be resistant to change and new ideas
-Huge corporation, so there are plenty of gatekeepers that sometimes make progress difficult (i.e. significant red tape/approvals for investing in new, but much needed equipment)

Great People and a well-managed company

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Columbus, OH

ProsThe people employed at Parker are excellent. Feels like one large extended family. I would definitely recommend working at Parker Hannifin.

ConsThe only challenges of working here are that it is an old school engineering company. With that comes being well managed and always profitable, but may lack modern business theories and strategies.

    No Words To Explain

Assembly (Former Employee) New Ulm, MN

ProsNone To Be Found At New Ulm Plant

ConsThe managers are the biggest bully's I have ever seen. They talk about empowerment, but manage by fear and intimidation.
They need corporate to come in and clean out the inexperienced management and insert some people to bring about some positive change. “lean” has become overused in a lot of companies including parker. This is a disaster waiting to happen!
The dysfunction and chaos is beyond belief.
Disconnected management that rides the back of it's loyal employees. lean at parker means do more with less
If you're interested in getting promoted, doing your job well is not necessary. What you need to do is be the top Brown-Noser!

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you want to be respected at all, get rid of the offensive people who are getting rid of the good people..
Too many "corporate" and "staff" managers etc. - .the production employees make the money to pay your overinflated salaries! Start listing to the people who actually produce the producst to SELL!

    Good OL Boys Club

Design Engineer (Former Employee) Modesto, CA

ProsA paycheck that wasn't late. Good people.

ConsHostile environment, dirty, not environmentally caring, discriminatory.

Advice to Senior ManagementTRAINING, TRAINING, TRAINING. Listen to employees that are willing to speak up about management instead of getting rid of them.
