    I worked at Parkson Corporation full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Very family oriented business that treats its employees very ethically and fairly.

    Cons

    Limited or inconsistent chance for advancement where more responsibility is not always rewarded. Lots of personnel turnover in the past few years - most with little positive effect.
    The biggest challenge is that the company's technology portfolio doesn't really offer a clear future for the company or its employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    The company needs to expand its technologies to create more opportunities for its future and that of its employees. The company also needs to be more consistent in accepting and following through on the bringing new ideas into the company.

    Pros

    Good company to work for 2 to 3 years. You gain a lot of experience within those periods,

    Cons

    Due to poor budget and forecasting by management, organization structure is changed every 6 months. High employee turnover. Management has short term focus. Unlike other corporations, a whole year seems long term here. You are bound to be moved around performing different roles and may have to wear different hats at times. The company has lost transparency under new management where information is not freely shared leaving employees clueless about the performance and sometime their job duties. As a result, employees seem to have low morale and self-esteem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focusing on short term goals such as profitability and shareholder's ROI will lead to worse long term implications. Try to keep employees (whatever are left) happy, will lead to better performance. It's simple cause and effect relation. Learn from corporations like Southwest Airlines, Boston Consulting Group etc. where employees and customers are prime focus for wellbeing.

    Pros

    Parkson is privately held as a tiny part of a giant conglomerate, so one would expect long-term thinking with little emphasis on the short term numbers. Sales force is skilled.

    Cons

    Contrary to the typical tendencies of privately held companies, Parkson is tied very closely to the short term numbers. The result is inconsistent and out-of-touch management, with poor treatment of employees and customers. Management's approach is to manipulate both the numbers and the employees - a recipe for a downward spiral. You can fool some of the people all the time .....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Accept that past practices have been a failure and change gears completely, moving to strategic thinking, planning and management. Get rid of dinosaurs. Adopt leadership rather than manipulation - trust your people.

    Easy people to work with. Management willing to give you more responsibility.

    Cons

    Frequent downsizings leads to a split of older generation veterans and young and inexperienced employees. No middle ground.

    Pros

    Coworkers are very nice, helpful, and friendly. They are always willing to teach you and motivate you to ask questions. Management is very well respected and they also treat you as equals. They have plenty of activities to make it fun.

    good people to work with and an excellent atmosphere. the place has alot to offer as far as potential growth and promotion.

    Cons

    in some ways the outline of duties is somewhat vague. it would be better to have more deadline dates and a structured view of what the potential is that they intend for you to become within the company to strive for.

    specific promotion intentions to individuals to maintain motivation. maintain crosstraining as well. it helps keep the job interest higher than most.

    Pros

    Overall, Parkson was a good place to work with competent management and extremely fair and ethical business practices. Employees were treated very fairly with a good work-life balance.
    Benefits and employee programs were generous and administered fairly.

    Cons

    The company's main challenge is growing its business with an extremely conservative outlook toward business risk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Overall, the company needs to expand and modernize its portfolio of products and technologies which requires a more aggressive an pro-active approach toward taking and managing business risk. As the saying goes: no risk - no reward.

    Open communciation between upper management and other employees

    Uncertain of company real performance and issues. Sometimes the actions do not reflect what the reports show.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Let employees know if things are not working so well and what are the actions that will be taken to manage these issues. Have a better communication between employees when hiring and letting someone go the company. Communication about any moves of employee can affect considerably the activities of their peers.
