I worked at Partners HealthCare full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Phenomenol world class talent in a world class organization, even in IT
    - HIT projects out of star wars, things you can only dream of in the corporate world
    - Tremendous Clinical R&D opportunities
    - Potential to move around in the organization
    - PHS influences not only the US but the rest o the developed world

    Cons

    - No upward mobility in IT. You do what you do and that's that
    - Stagnant management tenure. Same folks in the same position for 15-20 years. No room for new talent.
    - 25-40% lower salaries in IT compared to industry (it's your 'privilage to work here - remember that)
    - No new innovation since Epic is in the house

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Leave OR at least move around. You have been there too long. Make room for new talent.
    - Pay better salaries. You will get better talent.
    - Provide upward mobility career options for folks. Currently its ZERO. At least in IT.
    - Bring Glaser back! Seriously . . . . his time is up @ Siemens

I worked at Partners HealthCare full-time for more than a year

    Pros

So much training that allows for constant growth.

    Cons

HR and management are on the ins with each other, so basically if you have any questions about procedures then you are better off finding the answer yourself and not making any noise about it.

    Pros

Work with nice people who are at the top of their professions. Good benefits. Good entry level opportunities and training programs.

    Cons

Limited chance to grow if you are mid-career. Way behind in their use of IS technology!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Involve employees more in the decision-making process.

    I worked at Partners HealthCare

    Pros

Cross-functional teams, high-impact work, great people, lots of learning. Could not have asked for a better place to launch my career.

    Cons

IT can be a bit behind the times, slow upgrade roll-out, occasionally have to get creative to get resources for challenging engineering tasks.

Current Employee - Facilities Manager in Boston, MA

I have been working at Partners HealthCare full-time

    Pros

Job security ( a plus for an Architect) great benefits. Noble mission.

    Cons

Like any large non profit- difficulty in clear decision making and planning. Private industry has ( i assume!) clear heierarchy of descision making but a large non-profit has multiple stakeholders and power centers that skew and slow down the decision making process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward the real workers not the corporate politicians
