I have been working at Partners in Performance full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Strong business model / positioning in the marketplace
    - No offices = live anywhere you like
    - Put money where your mouth is (read: many pay-for-results engagements)
    - Super-smart but grounded colleagues (ex-McKinsey/BCG, without the attitude)
    - Very fast growth in all regions (translates into promotions)
    - Little to no politics; laidback culture
    - Significantly above-market compensation

    Cons

    - Grueling travel - 4 nights/5 days a week is not uncommon
    - Limited benefits package in the US (but comp. package makes up for it)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Let employees contribute to 401K in Year 1
    - Move to consistent 3 or 4-day travel schedule

    Pros

High salary and great compenstion & benefits

    Cons

Enforce your autoestimate before join....You will be a long time in the Bench doing a work with no value and correcting Power Points and Spreadsheets...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Before hire new ones, use the people you already have in place.. And please sell more engagements,,

PIP's probably one of the best implementation consultancies out there, you'll sure learn heaps and have lots of fun!

I have been working at Partners in Performance full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    * You do work that matters, ending up with a great results chart that demonstrates the effort you've put in during the past 6-9 months (on average)
    * PIPers are a great bunch! Rarely will you run into snobs. They are all smart while being down to earth
    * Amazing company culture means you will be comfortably employed with great support staff in Sydney
    * Varied experience across many industries, although majority heavy industry
    * Development leader program ensures rapid career progression
    * Aggressive growth strategy allows for ample promotion opportunities

    Cons

    * Poor professional development scheme. Expect 2.5 weeks of formal training in 4 years!
    * Can get stuck into particular industries or types of work. Seems like they get to make up their mind over 'what type of consultant you are' very early on, so any future opportunity in diversifying your experience and portfolio becomes very limited
    * Since the core product is operations consulting, you are likely to spend your PIP career in the operations silo. There is no exposure to HR, sales, marketing, strategy etc. So if you want that exposure early on in your career, you will NOT get it in PIP
    * They do not support any formal studies (even upon return to company post studies)
    * Very poor work life balance, expect to be away from home every week day for your entire employment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * Think about profit sharing trickling further down the line, esp for engagements were consultants have spent > 12 months
    * Make engagement DIVERSITY a Priority in consultant development, especially the junior ones. Do not just box them up into were you are comfortably selling them.
    * Invest more in formal education (in house or external) so your consultants do not feel like they are missing out on by not being elsewhere

Current Employee - Senior Associate in Brisbane (Australia)

I have been working at Partners in Performance full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    * Get to to really cut your teeth into heavy industry
    * Opportunity to implement projects and have an impact at the client
    * Different industries (mining, manufacturing, entertainment etc.) and types of work (business improvement, sourcing, rapid optimisation of capital expenditure, commercial due diligence etc.)

    Cons

    * Some business improvement projects can take up to one year (sometimes more) minimising your overall consulting experience
    * Consultants that come from Strat houses would normally favour business improvement type work as it involves implementation type work, but normally find themselves staffed at corporate offices and not on site and vice versa for those coming from operations backgrounds wanting the corporate office exposure
    * There is no remote allowance for business analysts and associates
    * Bench work (time when you're not staffed) can be as long as 2-3 months! This can get very frustrating
    * Mentorship is fantastic through the development leader program, but formal training is probably below the average you would receive in the corporate world

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * PIP is a great firm so keep up the growth and winning new work
    * Need more time off for formal training through a mixture of class and online modules
    * International exposure should be part of the development of the consultant, and not just a function of staffing shortage

I worked at Partners in Performance

    Pros

Good people, interesting work, company has a good standing in its niche market, which is a growth stage. Strong methodology and culture.

    Cons

Expect to travel 100% to remote locations. Little interaction with anyone outside your direct client team. Some mid-level managers seem unprepared. Very hard to get a bonus, based on individual discretion instead of performance.
