  1. Good first time job

    I worked at Party City

    Pros

Employees were friendly, flexible hours, wasn't too stressful during slow hours, organization of the store was simple and easy to remember

    Cons

Some weeks I only got one shift, customers can be pretty rude sometimes, can be stressful when it was believed that a secret shopper was in the store, minimum wage, Halloween gets pretty crazy

    Advice to Management

Stop putting so much emphasis on meeting email quotas and balloon orders. No one wants them so it can be hard to sell and then we get penalized for it.

I worked at Party City part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good experience as a first job or part-time job through high school. Friendly coworkers. Halloween was always a fun time even though it got hectic.

    Cons

Managers tried to fit in too much with the younger crowd. There was never a set task when I got to work. That's retail though..

    Advice to Management

Focus more on having professional relationships with employees. If an employee needs you up front for help with a customer, don't complain over the walkie and take 10 minutes to get there.

    Pros

Flexible schedule for High school/college attendees.

    Cons

You are literally a one man show, cashier/balloons/answering phones/doing top stock. Customers complain for lack of employees that are on the Job. You get yelled at if you don't get enough emails. $7.00 and some change is the starting pay. Not enough money to deal with all the degrading non sense that happens at Party City. Managers are the worst to deal with, they expect the world from you while you are basically a one man show.

    Advice to Management

Don't hire employees when there aren't enough hours for the current ones. Also it would be fantastic if corporate would update their technology. We are using computers from the stone ages that break down every chance they get or don't connect to the network. It's 2015 there should be a better way of getting email subscriptions instead of having to beg customers for their emails. Managers should get formal training in customer service and etiquette because from my experience in working at Party City the managers tend to have an attitude all around. It's sad that mostly all customers think that the regular employees are managers.

    Pros

It's pretty upbeat, management & co-workers are pretty decent people.

    Cons

They barely give you hours because God forbid anyone other than management gets more than 20 hours other than at Halloween time. The music we have to listen to daily is AWFUL. They pay crappy singers to do covers to crappy songs. Customers do the most when it comes to balloon orders. Expect to see nothing but a bunch of annoying or ghetto moms. 😒

    Advice to Management

Update the computer systems, maybe? They're about 20+ years too old.

    Pros

Easy dress code, vacation, and holidays. Christmas is not busy so there is no Black Friday at this retailer.

    Cons

If you like to see favoritism in the store and on a corporate level this is the job for you. I really don't understand how upper management does not lose their jobs the things they do. Also promotions are based on your sex and who you know not your performance.

    Advice to Management

Make every store the same. No specific manager should only be able to work Monday through Friday, its retail.

    Pros

It gave you a good look on what cashiering is like, really busy during Halloween, get to dress up.

    Cons

Minimum wage, old equipment, customers, no room to be promoted, you either get no hours or lots of them

    Advice to Management

Allow room for promotion and advancement. Give hours to people that actually need them and be fair to all employees.

    Pros

Chill, not much to really say that is positive.

    Cons

Not an upgrade from associate. Managers give you responsibilities, but if an individual under you talks back or disrespects you at all, higher management turns a blind eye and won't do anything. A lot of gossip and attitude. Managers make you feel uncomfortable and some are very unprofessional. Rules are enforced if you are not on a friend level with them. If you want to be promoted, it's better to be friendly then do your job.

    Advice to Management

Be more professional. It's a job, not high school. Do your work and don't push it on others just because you aren't in the mood or you've had a rough night.

    Pros

    Flexible, good hours during halloween

    Cons

Unprofessional, unproductive, took my hours away, hectic, no controp over employees

    Advice to Management

Everything would be fine if he actually managed instead of complaining and letting everyone do what they want.
