    Pros

Constantly busy. Customers are 99% friendly. How can you not be, its a party store. Company constantly tries to improve, rather than staying stagnant.

    Cons

Not one big holiday season but many. Lots of transitional moves.

    Pros

Halloween is crazy, but in a fun way. Great place to work after Halloween...plenty of time to enjoy the Holiday season (no one shops at Party City during Thanksgiving or Christmas!) Had a great DM.

    Cons

Very hands-on work for the GM title: running a register, balloons, and freight, freight, freight! Had a Regional Manager who was out of touch with the store workload.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better planning would be nice. Many times stores are told to re-do something that they were directed to do not even a week ago!

    Pros

The 30% employee discount. The interaction with customers and helping them plan their party. Halloween brings out some really fun and lively customers.

    Cons

Instead of hiring staff to work the truck and maintain the back stock and overall store, they use management. Rule #1 in management is that you cannot manage a process you are a part of. This keeps the managers unable to truly run the store. The two hours allotted to work in your zone is not near enough time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rule by fear is only effective in the short run. Training needs to have more of a role.

The company may be called Party City, but it's no party to work there; had high expectations, but was very disappointed.

    Pros

The benefits were competitive, and I enjoyed the customers and the employees I worked with in my store, as well as my peers and DM.

    Cons

Corporate is out of touch with the field. They send an overabundance of communication, and often the messages are contradicting. Several managers left saying they found better work-life balance elsewhere. The regional seemed more concerned with his image than with offering support to the stores. I was salaried so I thought the pay was competitive when I took the job, but when I figured out what I was really making per hour with all of the extra hours I worked, it wasn't worth it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps the executives should consider participating in Undercover Boss so they will understand what it takes to run a store with a multitude of tasks and very little hours, all the while having to provide excellent service. I am favor of great service, but it becomes difficult when you have to be a task master.
