Former Employee - Laboratory Technician in Batavia, IL

I worked at PartyLite Worldwide full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Great environment, good people, and a clean and organized laboratory.
-There were several knowledgeable people in both R&D and the manufacturing plant.
-Always good experience to work in a laboratory next door to a manufacturing plant.
-For the most part, a laid back environment.
-Annual reviews with decent raises for those who performed.

    Cons

-There was a sense of a "clique" with upper management. If you were not in with them you were the first to lose your job even if you were more qualified that the people who remained.
-A few of the formulators took a "shotgun" approach to researching new materials, and sometimes never fully understanding the why. It was sometimes frustrating to work with the few who took this inefficient approach to R&D where sometimes design-of-experiments was not fully respected.
-You better not dislike fragrances or you will regret this job.
-If you work in the manufacturing plant, even for a short period of time, the fragrant odor on you and your clothes will be easily recognizable by anyone close to the neighborhood (A waitress at a restaurant 5 miles away walks up to our table and just exclaims, "You work at the candle company!" We just sigh and say, "yes we do.").

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at PartyLite Worldwide full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

great work/life balance, employees get discounts on products, most co-workers are friendly

    Cons

No true leadership at executive level - lots of politics and in-fighting among themselves! No training to keep individual skills current, little opportunity for promotion. A job not a career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lead proactively, not passive aggressively. Healthier culture will result.

    Pros

Nice people. New U.S. president has positive attitude. Benefits good. Free candles. Great location for anyone living on south shore. Backed by larger company.

    Cons

Products good but not as unique as in the past. Business on the decline for some time due to competition and less interest in holding home parties. Decline translates into tight budgets, below average pay increases, no bonuses, fear of layoff. Top leadership fosters internal politics rather than team effort.

    Pros

Incredible company to be a part of. Recogition is great and pay and trips are fabulous. Just remember this is not a resudial income so you always have to continue your personal business to continue to be paid on your downline. It is easily lost by many. I lost it. It was worse than any divorce ever.

    Cons

You have to be brave enough to recruit if you want to build a strong business and make real money. You have to love the phone and not be afraid to brag yourself up!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change your profit structure. It's sad how many really good people you lost over petty arguments and lack of structure. Treat the RVPs with the respect they deserve. If they slip up get them back on track and on their feet. You have lost so many really great people. Myself included.

    Current Employee - Independent Consultant

I have been working at PartyLite Worldwide part-time

    Pros

great earning potential but unless you have friends and family willing to host shows for you to start then don't bother.

    Cons

company website lets you search for local consultant. unfortunately they are leaders. when you type my zip code in the closest leader is an hour away in a different state.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

change search option so you can find a consultant who is truly local and also not a leader. some of us have no desire to be leaders so it would be nice to have some special incentives for those consultants.

Former Employee - Independent Consultant in Sun Valley, CA

I worked at PartyLite Worldwide part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Free candles, good money...if you work hard enough by the end of the month. Fun events. Like I said, the pay is good, but it's basically on commission so i should say the percentage was good. The candles you get for free you can sell full price ;] They are good quality and not poisnous not to mention cruelty free! Their other products...you must try the beerbread. Flexible hours.

    Cons

No one takes buying candles seriously, they'd rather get cancerous one from department stores.
If you don't have sales at the end of the month you may have to put in your own cash. You basically have to give presentaion of the product which wasn't all bad unless you are quiet and have a loud crowd.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tell the people you recruit the truth. Pros, and Cons.
