    Pros

The training, compensation, benefits and the opportunity to move up quickly in the company is exceptional.

    Cons

The company is not consistent with their training and how life on real life drilling rig is. Be prepared!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't tell new 2 industry workers to call stops and preach all this safety and then when they do, let the crew and managers run them off!!

I worked at Patterson-UTI Drilling full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Competitive (hourly) wages.
    Good health benefits.
PTO was 'okay', until they started accruing it all together. (Vacation time, Sick leave time, Personal time off)
8-5, overtime if job duties required it. (I didn't mind the OT, others-were taken advantage of and had to work A LOT of OT)

    Cons

Actual work environment was terrible. (Unless you had your own office and stayed in it 8-5)
Supervisors tended to cater to employees that had basically no work ethic.
Upper management knew of several work environment issues, as well as employees with no work ethic being catered to and yet no action was taken.
As with a lot of major corporations, the good workers began to leave PAT-UTI. I was one of those.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper Management needs to pay close attention to actual pay periods, overall and they need to take notice of the employees that have no true work ethic and let those employees go.
Upper Management needs to listen to the 'good workers', as they know a lot of what goes on there.
Upper Management, do not wait until a 'good worker' gives notice, that they are resigning-to ask 'is there anything I can do'?

I worked at Patterson-UTI Drilling full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Environment to learn
    Good benefits
    Top notch rigs
    Job Security

    Cons

    Pay
    Operations has little control
Difficulty to perform based off experience of those hired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees in operational management should have more control, over hiring, policies, procedures, to steer the bottom line results in the direction needed. Too much of people not in touch with today's drilling needs creating procedures that drastically confuse and aggravate employees.

I worked at Patterson-UTI Drilling full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    pay and benifits are competitive

    Cons

upper management is infested with fishing buddies in eighty four pa and family if you do your job the "Patterson uti" (IE stopping jobs reporting incidents ect.) way and that gets someone in the "click" in a bind , you are in danger of losing your job or being pushed out .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

you can't really give advice to management , they will do things their way (at least in pa) regardless of polices . aslong as the click is ok thats whats important to them
