Pros
-Decent benefits and pay
-Great product
-Sound business model that is growing internationally
-Good disaster recovery plan in the event of a tornado
Cons
-Very political environment. You must ingratiate yourself with your rater to get a decent rating on their outdated bell curve performance review model.
-Replacement culture. They would hire people they don't know that well from the outside rather than develop the people already working there.
-Human Resources is completely broken. Employee satisfaction is very low and HR is completely ineffective.
-Overstaffed organization creates an organization that is complicated and inefficient.
Advice to Senior Management
-Leadership needs to develop the folks they already instead of hiring more people from Bank of America.
-Get HR to get out of their offices (the days they're actually on site) and talk to the employees.
Pros
PayPal has good benefits.
The salary was good - better than most other companies in the area.
Some flexibility in work time and schedule.
Cons
Middle management is awful; the worst management layer I have ever had to work with and endure. Bad Managers aren't punished, they're simply moved to other teams and other orgs where they repeat their atrocious behavior.
There is little or no promoting or advancement. Teams stagnate with no promotions or advancements for years.
Advice to Senior Management
When multiple employees go to HR with issues concerning management, and have stacks of documented evidence of their mistreatment by said management, fire the management, NOT the employees trying to make the workplace better!
Pros
Work life balance, people oriented, good career opportunities, good package, RSU's, working from home option, moving between Technical and Managerial path.
Cons
At times politics, senior management in Chennai should be empowered more to make decisions on their own. Transfers between various locations can be transparent.
Pros
Good compensation. Nice work environment. Honest management
Cons
Old technology. Fat mid level management.
Pros
Innovative, Pioneering, and quickly learning how to be "big" while staying small.
Cons
With some many moving parts changing so quickly, keeping up with everything can be a challenge and the reword.
Advice to Senior Management
Gonna need to learn how to be big.
Pros
PayPal has an interesting set of products and services, smart people working there, and is big enough to offer multiple career path opportunities.
Cons
PayPal is growing very rapidly, so frequently introduces new teams which need to be folded into the existing corporate culture.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to lead as you are, you are taking the company forward into the future with integrity, gumption and relevance.
Pros
Nice people, good campus and great cafeteria
Cons
Company is going through it's bad cycle, it will take some time to get over this cycle.
Pros
Interesting projects, challenging environment.
It's always possible to improve processes
Not much dead wood - people are sharp
Clear procedures to follow to get things done
Kids at work day is GREAT!
Nice facilities
Free on-campus fitness center - great yoga classes
Cons
It takes a lot of effort to get buy-in for non-standard process
Management doesn't promote from within
Lots of competition for promotion because everyone is well-qualified
Too much process
Cumbersome to get things done with their structure
Contractors are given limited privileges
Advice to Senior Management
Look at the people you've got! You don't need to keep parachuting in new talent. It discourages those who have been working hard and hoping for a promotion.
Pros
if you are metric driven - great place to work
Cons
incentive system supports competition for quantity over quality
Pros
Everyone should work for a least one big dot com in their career, and PayPal is a great one.
Cons
A lot of management layers.
