    Pros

Company is on the cutting edge of many innovations in the payments space, and combined with the brand recognition of eBay and PayPal, should be a more dominant player.

    Cons

Marketing functions are in a near constant state of re-organization, with little leadership and no professional development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a true CMO and devote energy and focus to developing a marketing muscle that will go against Square, Stripe, and Amazon, who are clearly winning in this space.

    Pros

The people: support as a team, very nice human atmosphere, debates with smart colleagues.
Lots of holidays, flexibility for PTO.
The company let every employee the freedom to do what they think is the right thing, bypassing the rules if they think it is the right thing to do.
    Beautiful building.
Can do extra tasks that will bring awards (if manager gives you).
If you are enough good in public relations, you will get promoted.

    Cons

Talented people often leave the company for Google, Facebook, LinkedIn etc.
The reasons are the complexity for getting promoted (not based on talent and work accomplished but on PR with managers) and the salaries (lower than other companies for similar jobs).
Very political if you want to progess.
Jobs are very repetitive and does not need qualified people, so employees get frustrated very fast.
The canteen is expensive for the standard employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do the right thing and/or keep doing the right thing.

    Cons

Processes, processes, processes. Remote collaboration can be painful and exhausting. Sometimes there's too many cooks in the kitchen, especially in meetings, which can be excessive and unorganized. Typical office politics, which varies depending on your location and team.

Best Company I've ever worked for

Former Employee - Limitations Department  in  Omaha, NE
Former Employee - Limitations Department in Omaha, NE

    Pros

Training is great, small classes with instructors who listen and understand concerns.
The system isn't perfect but is always improving, which is all that matters for a company.
Great benefits and things to do while on break, follow the rules and it's like being on vacation at work.

    Cons

Some departments need better management to keep people sane.

When I was working there we were judged on how the customer rated us.
Who is going to give you a good rating if you work in the "limitations" department and the only customers you get are already irate about their account being locked (most of the time we weren't even able to remove the lock because other departments were way behind schedule). So we had Irate customers with no means of helping them because another department wasn't able to handle their work load. We were judged on the customer reviews that were out of our control.

A customer is given a survey about how you handled their call, it does not matter how polite and sincere you are, people are going to give you a bad rating when you are unable to resolve the issue with the result they wanted (due to PayPal's system). You can coat bad news with anything you want, they are still going to be angry their account is locked and give bad ratings.

PayPal created this no win situation by not paying attention to what happens when another department is reliant on another department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hopefully this has been resolved in the years since I worked here, if not then there's really nothing I can say to get them to do it now.
