I worked at Paychex Insurance Agency full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits Good people in other cores to work with Flexibility Technology for writing applications

    Cons

Major turnover Can't compete with major brokers Core & Major account reps will not give you leads since they work with the major brokers in the area Zero chance for advancement in this division

    Advice to Management

Insurance does not sell like payroll services and never will. The micro managing is not helping grow this division.

    Pros

The work environment is very supportive and accommodating. Supervisors and management generally very approachable and want to invest in your long term development.

    Cons

It's not a particularly exciting place to work, typical office environment with little variability in a lot of the daily tasks. Great for someone who wants stability and slow steady growth but for someone looking to move up the corporate ladder very quickly and wants to take chances this maybe too safe of a job if that makes any sense. The full benefits package is nice and that's how they sell you but the salaries are lower than you will find with other companies.

    Advice to Management

Management seems fine from what I can tell, Marty Mucci seems to have that following within the company where he can do no wrong.

I worked at Paychex Insurance Agency full-time

    Pros

    Sales training program is phenomenal

    Cons

Horrible management, absolutely terribly below industry standard commissions. The agency is incapable of keeping an account satisfied.

    Advice to Management

Insurance isn't a machine. STOP THE ONE SIZE FITS ALL MENTALITY!

  6. Helpful (1)

Frustrated by the disconnect between company's stated values, objectives and actual practices.

I worked at Paychex Insurance Agency full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are comfortable with disingenuous communications and a strict adherence to image control, then you might not feel the same frustration.

    Cons

I was let down to realize that serving the needs of small business owners was, in fact, not a priority. If the needs of small business owners could be blown off without Paychex tarnishing its image, no doubt that is what would happen. Truly meeting the needs of the insured was also not the way to gain a promotion. The term, "managing up," doesn't begin to describe the atmosphere. It was only after work that I learned from other employees how resentful and unhappy they were. No one breathed a word of it at work for fear of being shut out or shunned by management. Not unlike a totalitarian state.

    Advice to Management

Management is uninterested in advice. They have a large pool of applicants and no incentive to change the way they do business.

    Cons

Not professional environment, too much pressure.

  8. This is a good company to work for great benefits and pay, the only downside is management micro manages & then quits.

I have been working at Paychex Insurance Agency full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and ok pay, lots of opportunities to take classes at Paychex University to learn all you can about the business and all the different sectors and train for new opportunities.

    Cons

They can't keep the managers that they hire due to all the rules with micro-managing. The managers get tired of Paychex really quick. The managers are in your face all the time and watching everyone. If they see something they don't like they will come directly to you and talk to you about it. Paychex is very clicky, everything is done in clicks, I haven't seen this kind of clicky and juvenile behavior since I was in school. Paychex loves to hire fresh out of college kids, most of them are in their very early 20's.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees will come to you if an issue arises.

I have been working at Paychex Insurance Agency full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A great place to launch your career; positive work environment and competitive benefits. Plenty of support if it's sought out.

    Cons

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of room for advancement. It can be difficult to chart a career path when there aren't a lot of available resources.

    Pros

Potential to make a great Income. Very nice work/life balance. Good position for someone that already has experience with health and ancillary sales. Department is filled with other reps that will not hesitate to offer you assistance in times of need.

    Cons

They hire candidates with no experience and don't really provide the support needed to succeed. No in depth training on paychex admin that can make or break a sale. Markets vary significantly for each employees territories, so managers are not able to provide much assistance. The employees that succeed are provided support, while reps that are struggling slip through the cracks.

    Advice to Management

If you are going to hire people with absolutely no insurance experience you need to provide the support and tools needed to become an expert.

  11. Great starting place, great experience.

    Pros

The training is extremely thorough. The partnering you'll do with reps from other divisions, (payroll, 401K, HR) is very helpful and you'll work with some very good people. When I was hired my manager said, "You'll probably stay here 2-3 years and then roll this over into something better. Recruiters and hiring managers love seeing Paychex on a résumé." And he was absolutely correct. I would recommend anyone work here for a while for specifically these reasons. Especially if you're under 35.

    Cons

The numbers you are required to hit each month are pretty high. To continue to hit them month after month eventually becomes impossible which is part of the reason they have fairly high turnover. From when I began 85% of the people in my division left.

    Advice to Management

The numbers are too high which is why the turnover is as high as it is.
