    Pros

I was made to feel like I had worked there for years, even though I was only there for a temporary 6 week assignment. The other employees were very helpful and would even ask me questions. The management didn't stand over my shoulders, they trusted me to do my job and then thanked me for completing everything and offering to help my co-workers complete their assignments.

    Cons

Would have liked to been hired on as a permanent employee but there were no openings.

    Pros

Paychex provides very competitive benefits and treats their employees very well. The senior leadership team is very capable and steers this ship directly toward our company and organizational goals.

    Cons

This company is a little slow to conform to some of the industry norms. But, when they do, they make a full commitment and jump right in with both feet.

    Pros

I'm getting paid. Not very well, but it's better than my previous jobs. The health care insurance is good.

    Cons

We are paid too little for the amount of work we do. We keep having the tools we need for success taken away. Posting for a new position is a complete waste of time since no one hires the best person for the job. Unless you're in sales or management, you'll never go anywhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start figuring out how to keep your employees. My department has hemorrhaged employees in the past 6 months because management can't figure out how to retain them.

    Pros

    - They try and promote a positive atmosphere
    - Benefits above average
    - Feel secure in my job
    - Micromanaging is kept to a minimum

    Cons

    - Pay is not commensurate with experience.

The last couple years the pay within my particular department has taken a plunge. Last years W2 was over 3,000 less than 3 years ago despite the fact I performed better overall. It's a bit disheartening to see family and friends salaries increase each year with their jobs while mine was chopped down and now remains relatively stagnant.

The problem is compounded by the fact that Paychex continually reports record earnings and growth. It seems to me that unless you're in outside sales or senior management, they will only let you earn so much.

I had considered switching to different departments but the positions that looked appealing came with rate decreases that were too much to absorb.

At this point I feel kind of "stuck" which isn't a great feeling. I only hope in the time they'll review the slashes they've made in my area and reconsider some of the cuts. There was a time I thought I could retire from the department I'm in but now I don't think that's possible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seriously consider the impact on the moral of a team when you decide to unilaterally slash their pay. We weren't happy but at least understood why it had to be done but the worst of the recession is over and Paychex is in a solid position. It might be time to revisit all those cuts you made.

    Pros

I love the people that I work with, and it looks good to have Paychex on a resume.

    Cons

The department I work in is very disorganized and there is a lot of micro-managing going on. This department keeps changing they way they want to do things with no good plan in place to do it. Makes for a very stressful job environment.
