    Pros

The discounts and sales experience you gain from the job can really benefit you in the future. Although you do not earn commission like other shoe stores, Payless still trains you in the aspect as if you were so you are gaining the best skills with sales and retail.

    Cons

Sometimes not gaining commission isn't fair because Payless expects you to serve whatever customer that comes into the store until they leave. From greeting the customer, to offering specific accessories that my compliment whatever shoe they decide to buy. The technique they choose to keep an customer engaged and interested can seem robotic and generic to customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add some type of commission for workers and let workers form some type of technique to sale product to customer by examining the technique Payless provides payless.

    Pros

Work around your school schedule and requests. Easy to switch shifts. Not a hard job to learn. You can get shoes for ridiculously cheap.

    Cons

No schedules until almost Saturday. The workers are over worked and underpaid. The people working the hardest get nagged at while lazy people are never confronted and told to improve their performance. There is no organization in this company. Your performance is all on numbers which are not properly calculated and do not reflect the actual sales or numbers from the actual employee

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The expectations you have are ridiculous. You're cutting way too many corners trying to save pennies expecting your employees to pick up these tedious tasks with nothing in return.

    Pros

    Great leadership in some districts.
Possibility of learning a lot from more tenured leaders.
It is possible to move up in the company quickly if you work for it.
It is needs based selling instead of high pressure sales.
Overall, very fun atmosphere if you get the right leaders in the right places.

    Cons

Crazy busy workload. A lot is expected of you, especially as a leader.
A lot of responsibility is put on store teams, though teams are not always given the proper tools to be successful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-analyze the training tools available. Re-analyze the payroll given to stores. A high volume store has high volume needs, and are ten times more demanding than a low volume location. Train and retain the part timers so there are people to promote. Pay part timers a decent living wage and they will last longer. Give your leaders a better work/life balance and they will stay longer.

    Pros

It was great that they were willing to work with my school schedule. They gave great discounts on shoes and other products

    Cons

Training videos where not helpful and very brief. Worked my first day and heard two employees speaking bad about me. And one of them was a store leader. Very inappropriate. Worked 8 hrs and did not receive meal breaks. Received hour lunch. Manager was very disrespectful. Yelled and embarrassed me in front of customers.

    Pros

There are no pros. The pro will be when this review is read understood and action is taken.

    Cons

Payless regularly coercres employees into signing performance reviews that indicate they have poorly performed. This is typically done to long service, higher paid employees so that they have an out to fire them. If employees refuse to comply they are fired. Payless will also dispute unemployment claims because they want to improve their experience rating and lower their taxes. They will often do this after an employee has already been paid thousands of dollars in legitimate unemployment compensation. Store/District Managers are untrained, unnscrupulous and feel they can do whatever they want. Management team should and will be held accountable for their actions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Prepare for the day when employees who have been illegally reated get together for a class action suit to put the company out of business.

    Pros

Nice coworkers, good discount, flexible scheduling if you're part time.

    Cons

Don't ever get promoted to management. There's absolutely no work/life balance. DM's constantly contradict themselves with what they expect to get done. No payroll. No one wants I do the amount of work expected for minimum wage so managers get stuck doing everything themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give payroll and don't make us wrote numbers down every 60 minutes. You think we don't have enough to do already?!
