    Pros

Flexible Schedule (Unless you were on the bad side of the scheduler)
    Shoe Discount!
    Minimal Supervision
    You really learn sales.

    Cons

Ridiculous return policy- really? we take anything back?
Catty Environment - imagine a bunch of tired girls in a closed off environment
Technology is an absolute joke, system crashed numerous times
    Shoe quality worse
Low pay, not much for raises
    No more payless bucks
Severe lack of winter boots by January
Basically expected to run the store by yourself hours at a time.

    Advice to Management

The whole giving the GLs a store to manage on TOP of supervising numerous other stores is ridiculous!
Take some leadership classes on dealing with drama.
    Send out more winter boots.

    Pros

The people who work in corporate office are great. Nice, courteous, respectful - easy and fun to work with. Most leaders are respectful to subordinates and very few have a "don't you know who I am?" attitude.

    Cons

Downsizing has placed a greater and greater workload on the fewer remaining people to get the work done.
The building is in need of updating.

    Pros

I have made friends, but that's the only good part.

    Cons

I have been with the company 8 months and have not gotten a raise yet. I was promoted to Key Holder but i am still making the same as I was when I first started. My manager even said I was getting a raise after 6 months. I work so hard and my numbers show that, but I do not get the credit I deserve because my boss doesn't care about us, she is mean and spiteful. I can't go to my DM because she plays him like a drum and they are just alike. SO unprofessional. Please save yourself the trouble, and not to mention all the stress they put on you to be perfect.

    Advice to Management

Watch out for the fake managers who take advantage of people just because they are the boss.

    Pros

Having worked there for so long and been on good terms with the store managers, my opinion was taken into consideration very often, in terms of hiring and shift coverage and the like.

    Cons

Working in a mall store, there was just not enough Payroll to manage all the responsibilities of the store and provide the proper breaks and coverage of every aisle.

    Advice to Management

Treat a store located in a mall setting with different standards, as the shopping experience is completely different from that of a stand-alone store.

    Pros

Relatively lax dress code, lots of hours.

    Cons

Revolving door employees, unreasonable expectations from upper management, undertrained and overworked minimum wage employees.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the minimum wage lackeys, they're the ones making your money. Adjust your expectations to reflect real like.

    Pros

I loved working at Payless, when I was at my original store (as I transferred to another store after moving). It wasn't far from my house and I liked the people I worked with. My manager at the time, Leslie, was knowledgeable, personable, and very nice. She gave me opportunities to learn more about sales and management, as well as working with my college class hours. Plus the store discount didn't hurt.

    Cons

There wasn't enough time to handle new shipments and provide proper customer service. I felt like there needed to be more team members.

    Advice to Management

There is no need for a skeleton crew at all times - hire more people!

    Pros

    Health insurance
    CoWorkers
    Experience
    Holidays off

    Cons

Pay as a 3 year SL I only made $11.92 an hour.
Too much stress not enough pay
Audit prep always made me almost quit
Asks too much from its employees & gives back too little.
    Raises got taken from 6m-1y
Compromises integrity with the happiness guarantee. Worst rule ever.
And WORST EVER home & work balance.

    Advice to Management

Get it together. Think a little more about your employees. You put so much work into making your customers happy that associates and especially SLs are over looked.
