Pros
A chance to see the world and improve/effect people's lives in ways not otherwise possible.
Good health care.
Learn a new language and culture.
Sense of community with other volunteers.Cons
Pre-service training in no way shape or form could be called "fun"...long hours, stressful environments 24/7. Little emotional support is offered...and much of your happiness level depends on who is volunteering with you. Don't expect any earth loving hippies...mostly fresh out of college kids with little experience in the real world. There is a large drinking culture here and some volunteers act more like they're in frats rather than volunteers in developing countries-this depends highly on the group your in.
A lot of the regulations will leave you feeling like a child rather than an independent adult.Advice to Senior Management
Offer more emotional support. When there is a problem identified-ACT on it! When recruiting have high standards...a lot of people see to slip through the cracks.

“A great job and wonderful experience as long as you can tolerate an inadequate, overworked, blame driven support staff.”
