Great place to learned about The Optical industry. Your spend a lot of time teaching and helping customer pick the right frames and lenses for their vision needs. Commissions based on your personal sales were decent.

    Cons

    Yearly raise was low.

I have been working at Pearle Vision full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

When you work for an independent doctor, you have more freedom to set goals, schedules and treat opticians the right way. Money comes to those who earn it. Ive never been happier at a job and had less stress once I left the corporate world. Patients really appreciate not being treated like cattle.

    Cons

Corporate stores like Lenscrafters, America's Best, Sears, etc. have made optics seem like it is an easy profession. Filling prescriptions, diagnosing problems and customer service have gone to the way side by just giving away free stuff and refunds.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your employees to do your job as if you weren't going to show up the next day. Everyone should be licensed whether the state requires it or not.

    Pros

Could work life balance, flexibility to work at your pace and there is no micromanaging. You earn a little commissions.

    Cons

No room for growth. There are hardly any raises. Alot of things are set in stone even though there are efficient way of doing things.

I have been working at Pearle Vision full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It was an independent franchise, so the work environment was small time and not corporate feeling. Very relaxed atmosphere where everyone just did their job. Almost like a small family.

    Cons

The pay ceiling is low, but that should be expected in a retail store such as this. There is not much to learn, so it did get boring. No real advancement opportunity.

I have been working at Pearle Vision full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

It's an optical industry and you're helping people with their vision.

    Cons

The problem with such businesses is not the industry but vision insurance's and inexperienced opticians. If it wasn't for vision insurance i'd give this place maybe 4 stars. Vision insurance and the crap you have to deal with will suck the life out of you unless you like drama. If you like Spanish soap opera's and you want to live one then this is a great place for you.
Worst part about this industry in the recent years has been that they have been hiring more and more sales people but not enough real educated opticians. That's when the problems arise. You'll have a boss who used to manage McDonald's or Blockbuster video who has no idea how to properly select frames and lenses for patients and by that they dig their own hole and drag you down with them. Next thing you know you have patients coming back with various problems, from lenses being to thick or too thin for certain frames, wrong materials, wrong orders being created, taking too long to get glasses due to manager incompetence.
There are not many leaders in this company but there are a lot of managers.
Many of the managers are too childish, their requests along with rules and procedures seem more like from a high school type environment. If you like being treated like a child then this place is perfect for you, but if you're a grown responsible person then you can find better place to put your hours in exchange for a skimpy paycheck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow up. Have more respect for your employees. Stop hiring useless people from a different industry and trying to transform them into opticians. Not everyone can be a great optician but everyone can learn how to make a sale under pressure.
Every year the numbers go up but you do nothing to increase traffic and increase pay. You rely on employees to get you customers while owners are acting like a bunch of politicians threatening to employees "if you don't do this or that you'll get fired". To top it off, lab equipment is horrible but you expect miracles to be performed on them.
I can keep going about this cause i've spent 15 years in Pearle Vision and i'm glad i'm out.
    Good bye suckers!

I worked at Pearle Vision full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Compensation was good and commissions were ok. I enjoyed the training. This company is very much into new technology. Full time employees receive a free pair of glasses each year for themselves or a dependent.

    Cons

This company is not very good with their yearly raise in pay. A person can work as hard as possible, know a good job was done, and still be rated average or below. This company gave the lowest raises I ever had.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Positive reviews go a long way to create job satisfaction. It is important to an employee to feel valued by the company.

    Pros

Great Pay, Good Experience, Great People to work with.

    Cons

You work like a dog doing every job optical sales, receptionist, optometrist tech, lab technician.

I worked at Pearle Vision full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Learned a lot about eyewear, optician duties and diseases of the eye.

    Cons

Seemed ridiculous to automatically preappoint people for the following year, then start calling them to make a "real" appointment. Too much emphasis on saying the same thing to every customer. So much to learn but not a lot of great training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure to spend more one on one time training.

    Pros

Great co-workers, flexible with scheduling. Franchise stores are good b/c you're not dealing with mall hours.

    Cons

Not much room for growth especially if you are not an optician. Could be extremely busy or extremely slow. Great when busy but if slow the day just drags on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more appreciative of your employees.
