I have been working at Peebles part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The merchandise is very good quality at very good prices, and the employee discount is good considering that one can also use the many coupons available along with the discount. Environment is clean and well-organized.

    Cons

Too much emphasis placed on "controllables." This means there is the constant threat of termination if associates do not sell enough magazine subscriptions and charge accounts, as if badgering customers is promotes good customer service. The reward for meeting "controllable" goals is is not high enough to justify pressure placed on employees. Corporate office requires "open availability," but the salary does not support the ability to pay for childcare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider starting salaries higher than minimum wage, especially if potential employee has previous experience in retail sales, and threatening employees with termination is not an encouraging incentive in meeting goals. Employee retention would probably be higher if employees felt valuable to the company as individuals.

I have been working at Peebles part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The employee discount is about it. You get 20% off and can also use coupons.

    Cons

They pressure you to get magazines and sign people up with credit cards. And no matter how many you get, you're never rewarded in any way. Also, the customers are generally pretty rude.

This might just be at our store, but our manager is NEVER there. Not an exaggeration. She's there maybe one day a week. Max.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop forcing the magazines.

I worked at Peebles full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The employee discount is the only pro

    Cons

The pay is not good. You are required to push customers to try 3 "free" magazine subscriptions . In saying that I had to deal with many upset customers on a daily basis. If you don't have good numbers on magazines or getting customers to sign up for credit cards you get treated like crap and your hours get cut.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees better! Getting paid minimum wage is not nearly enough for everything the employees do! Treat your employees with respect! As a manager you must set an example. If you are expecting your employees to have good numbers….you yourself should be reaching the same goals.

I worked at Peebles full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great customer service, and associates are always will to help in any situation

    Cons

District manager is disrespectful, have seen her talk down to associates in front of customers, telling them if they do not make there goals (selling magazines) then they are fired. People go to Peebles to buy clothes not magazines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

keep your chin up, you are all doing a wonderful job.

I worked at Peebles part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The only pro was the discount

    Cons

    Where do I even begin....
    -Favoritsm
-Forced to be very pushy with customers after telling you no
-Constant threat of termintation for not selling charge accounts or magazines
-the magazines are a total gyp! You are supposed to tell the customers that 3 magazines are totally free which is a total lie they end up charging you for each one after a certain amount of time.
    -Managemaent was horrible
    -My managar was VERY disrespectful
    -constant drama and gossip
    -HORRIBLE DISTRICT MANAGENT

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Y'all are horrible get yourself together get rid of the magazines because NOBODY WANTS THEM, be more respectful to your employees since well, they are the ones who do all the work considering all my manager did was sit in her office and play games on her ipad lol simply ridiculous, there were people who worked there for literally a day then quit right after because the job is so HORRIBLE

I have been working at Peebles

    Pros

Great sales and clearance sales are fabulous plus decent product in store

    Cons

Upper Management does not care if associates are hard working but if they can sell magazines (clothing store not a magazine stand) or push Credit Cards and will fire or demote you in a second if you can't push these

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If the associate is hard working find ways to teach them how to push these extras have classes with human teacher so they can do these not push them aside than fire them or demote them if they can't do this part of the job

I worked at Peebles full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Sadly, none...
    - I honestly do not see this corporation lasting any more than a decade.

    Cons

    - Lost focus on customer service
    - Do not pay well, at all...
    - Promotions based on your ability to sell magazines and credit cards, without any real management abilities.
    - Encouraged to be "pushy" with customer
    - Magazine program pushed on customer is nothing but a scam
    - Upper management focuses on "magazine goals" and "credit card goals" over sales
    - Very bad company culture, poor employee training, and managers are often very degrading to their employees
    - Very few high-level members of management have degrees or know any basic knowledge of business practices

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice is quite simple, start from scratch. Problems are created at the top and are passed down the chain. Don't trade short-term gains on balance sheets for long term relationships with your customers.
