Pros
Flexibility and innovation. Can rise up.
Cons
Volatile industry. So very unpredictable.
Pros
All in all, Pegasus is trying to focus more on the employees, and shift the business paradigm toward that of the big tech firms.
Cons
The focus is more driven by new customer customizing rather than enhancing the applications.
Pros
Great work life balance as nothing is expected of employees
Half day Fridays
Lower level employees
Cons
Zero executive management and strategy skills
Top 2 finance executives have left the company this year and yet management still says nothing is wrong with the financials
Lack of integrity
Advice to Senior Management
All C-level executives are incompetent and should fire themselves, so I can continue to feed my family before the run the company into the ground.
Pros
Great salary. Non-management team members were helpful, truthful, and eager to help others. There were no barriers between departments, i.e., HR, IT, Facilities. The employees treated each other with respect. Extra-curricular activities, i.e., hot dog day (for charity), other holidays celebrated with free lunches, etc.
Cons
Management team in place not management quality. Integrity does not exist. Their way is the only way, no questions. Inability to be flexible.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior Management is not people oriented and need to take some management courses which include integrity, how to deal with people, respect for employees and they need to be a little more humble regarding their positions.
Pros
Nice people, interesting product, flexible
Cons
pay is lower than scale, no raises, most of management has no clue how to manage people effectively.
Advice to Senior Management
don't fire your long term employees who actually care about the product and know what they are doing.
Pros
not many left, but still a nice environment to work. CEO took his "sadam hussein" style poster pic of himself down from the lobby entrance.. Free coffee
Cons
job stability is non-existent. Dirs and VPs are incompetent, and no one really knows what they do. Some of the company gets to work from home, and those that do get the bulk of their work done at home. IT, however, well.. some are favored and work from home quite a bit and get new Mac laptops and company issued phones, but.. others.. don't even though they pull most of the weight.
Advice to Senior Management
communicate, send your subordinates status reports so we can see what you actually do during the day.
Pros
Very good company to work for prior to the departure of John Davis.
Cons
Management in charge has no solid direction. Investment in technology decisions very poor
Advice to Senior Management
rehire John
Pros
If you like Unix, you'll get to build your skills playing on Solaris consoles all day, The same is true for SQL. Generally friendly people throughout the organization. Enough wiggle room allowed in my position for me to take my own approach to solutions.
Cons
Pegasus is a company built from acquiring smaller companies, all of which developed proprietary software products, services, or solutions. Documentation for most products, if it even exists, is poor. An analyst can expect to spend 80 percent of their time looking for documentation and the remaining 20 percent mitigating an issue. Support salaries are extremely disproportionate to required skills and levels of responsibility/expected commitment. Departments are run on minimal staffing levels and budget.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on renewal revenue - it should represent at least 80% of your total revenue. If not, adjust support staffing levels and budget accordingly, as it's proven your renewal business is 3 times less costly than obtaining new business. Address software defects in a timely manner and be sure they take priority over new features and functionality in your product suite(s.) Your developers should be accountable to your customers and the staff supporting them, not the other way around.
Pros
Pegasus Solutions has some creative people and good talent. The Scottsdale location is good, albeit over kill. The operations staff (non management) *was* dedicated, and they used to support each other.
Cons
Pegasus Solutions just did a crazy thing and outsourced their *entire* Operations staff. All of their DBAs, Unix and Windows System Administrators to HP. This in itself isn't a bad thing, but they underestimated the staff's ability to find work. They did not offer any incentive to help transition to HP support ... AT ALL! Therefore, they will be lucky to have 10% of their experienced staff to do 24 hour support during the Christmas and New Year season. This should give a big leg up to competitors. Pegasus operated on an Operations shoestring, anyhow. Watching a company shooting itself in the foot is not fun.
Advice to Senior Management
Well, I'm not sure you can do anything at this point. Get the HP staff on-site and offer some key people some very large retention bonuses; you may get one or two to bite. Also, look at who on your staff recommended this (transferring support without a plan), and see if you can find who is working with the competition. Anybody is replaceable; even an entire Operations department if at least some planning is done.
Pros
Work life balance is excellent
Cons
Company is in a financial downward spiral
Advice to Senior Management
Managers should be held accountable for their teams performance
