    Pros

Good mix of friendly people. Financially stable company. They take care of the people who have worked there for decades. Opportunities to grow job scope there if you show loyalty and hard-work.

    Cons

Sometimes it seems the company values the appearance of hard-work over plain performance. Inconsistent review timing. Culture is dated. Opportunities to become management difficult. Their management does not leave.

    Advice to Management

Management should create a more social atmosphere. Employees do not want to just keep their head down on their desk all day every day.

    Pros

There is a large and supportive group of fellow designers. A great group of talented and lovely people who help make up for the shortcomings of the company as a whole.

    Cons

There is no internal structure set up for advancement. Accolades and rewards are rarely and arbitrarily doled out and there is a culture of secrecy about advancement opportunities when they do arise. The design process is disrupted; in two years, I rarely saw more than a photo of any design I worked on. This makes it difficult to measure growth as you rarely know how something turned out and therefore cannot really assess potential improvement. Also, work distribution is seemingly arbitrary, and salaries do not reflect your status in the company other than in terms of longevity. Salaries are not competitive with other major cities and especially low when dealing with San Francisco housing rates. My rent was 50% of my pay.

    Advice to Management

Allow designers more ownership in all areas of the design process. An extreme need for time management and editorial skills so that focus shifts from quantity to quality. Also, this is one of the only companies I've worked for where the designers are forever sitting behind their desks.

Small Chinese company in the Home Textile Industry. Company has huge and unrealistic expectations for growth in sales.

    Pros

-If you like small companies then this is the place for you. -Company could grow, but only if the culture changes and they choose not to shoot themselves in their own foot. Tend to create and imagine up their own problems.

    Cons

-Tends to focus on negatives... If any little detail/thing goes wrong you will get the entire blame and when times are good you will get no recognition/credit. -No consistent employer reviews, off the cuff and impromptu evaluations (never when things are going well). -Make no mistake, if you work here you will be buying the paper/ink/supplies (not cheap) for the printer. Expect to wait 2 months minimum to get your money back. Company will reimburse when and only when it is convenient for them monetarily.

    Advice to Management

Create more internal controls, look it up. That way you can have consistency and transparency. Don't be divas, don't be over-reactionary and create your own problems when none or very little in-fact even exist. Company can do well and grow, but will take a true culture change and that is probably asking too much at this time.

    Pros

Mostly nice co-workers and laid back however its always super busy! Lots of creative people to work with every day.

    Cons

No room for growth. If you've been there for a couple of years there's no new position for you.

    Pros

Most Co-works are nice and pleasant except couple of them

    Cons

it seems the designers have been there for a long time, either this is there first or 2nd job, but years later still in the same position, doing the exact same thing. As designer, you do not have the creative freedom and when your work is done, you'll never get to see the finish product. Someone else make necessary changes or correction, as designer you have no say and you'll never talk to sales or meet anyone else but just making cads. Very mechanical. Unlike most company i've worked for. No very good management, and not very approachable. No career advancement.

    Advice to Management

Door should open more to employees and be more approachable. Less political. Owner family should be more friendly and get to know employees, not just the managers.
