Pros
Great coworkers!!!! Sketches after every break. Decent technology place to work if you only want to say in Fresno.
Cons
People that have been with the company for 10+ yrs are still under pay $10s per/hr. LAYOFFS!
Advice to Senior Management
Increase veteran employee's wage=better production. Extend breaks from 10 to 15mins to allow workers more free time = better production.
Pros
Good equipment, professional attitude, nice work conditions.
Cons
Fear of layoffs due to downsizing.
Advice to Senior Management
Speed up project timelines.
Pros
Good balance between work and family life.
Cons
Seniority seems to be given more importance than skill and know how.
Advice to Senior Management
Take a closer look at certain people in management (both middle and senior). There are much better people within the company to take their place.
Pros
Good work life balance. Not expected to work over time. Great place for people who want to have an easy life and decent pay. It a nice place to work if you do not have much expectations from your career.
You can get to work on various different technologies.
.
Cons
Getting a promotion depends on who you know and not your quantity and quality of work. I have seen people bringing whole projects or product into ground, but still get to keep their position and even getting promoted after the project is scraped. A middle management composed of such people does not care much for high performers.
Appraisal system is not fair. Most people end up getting 3 out of 5. No matter if you worked really great or really bad.
Employee engagement is pretty poor. They have about 1500 -2000 employees on campus and no operational cafeteria. Pantry's are ill equipped. Lowest standard I have ever seen. There is almost no recognition for doing good work.
There is lack of leadership at mid-management level. They just don't know what to do and lack vision and perspective. Management does not believe in motivating. Although they are using scrum, but project planning is extremely poor.
Advice to Senior Management
Middle management needs a lot of improvements in many functions of the company.
Pros
get to learn a lot
Cons
low salary, slow career advancement
Advice to Senior Management
make a clear decision
Pros
The work place has great atmosphere in terms of friendliness and openness. We are the world largest video security company, currently having 60% market share in the United States.
Cons
The headquarter is located in Clovis, Central California. There is not so many activities going on in that area compared to San Francisco or LA.
Advice to Senior Management
Managers should look at their business, see what is working and what is not although they are doing quite good job saving the company in this bad economy.
Pros
Since the Schneider Electric aquisition great strides have been made in efficiency and the direction the company is taking. Dean Meyer has shown he has his eye on the ball. He put us in great shape for the recession, and is bringing in people who will do the company a lot of good in the future.
Cons
The top down decision making nature of the Engineering departments can sometimes inhibit innovation and good decision making. Technical decisions often come from mid level management and any disagreement from the senior engineers can be brushed aside.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the guys doing the work not the mid level managers who like to provide too rosy estimates, and make bad decisions seemingly based on the latest book they have read.
Pros
The worldwide headquearters in Clovis which is located in the California Central Valley means that the cost of living is relatively low compared to other regions, especially the San Francisco / San Jose / Bay Area. The company does do a lot to help those that need help in its work force.
Cons
The company is very manufacturing centric, from the top down. It is NOT like working for a software company. The benefits are not comparable with other tech companies. The 401k is not comparable either. The bonus structure is officially none existant. These things combined make the compensation packages offered somewhat unattractive.
Advice to Senior Management
It is ok to treat Engineers differently from janitors.
Pros
Stable company. One of the largest Employers in area. Once your a Pelco employee you can count on having a job. You can be the worse employee and not get fired from Pelco as long as you show up for work.
Cons
This isnt as bad as problem in past since Pelco was bought out by Schneider Electric. But to get a promotion or climb company ladder it was more of who you know or what you did for higher ups instead of hard work and dedication. Bad, lazy, incompetent Employees who shouldnt be at Pelco aren't dealt with.
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of your loyal, hard-working, dedicated Employees. Some people currently in management shouldn't be there. A manager should be someone who takes care of his employees. Who knows when to be strict or relaxed, does right thing for right reason, motivates and rewards people who go above and beyond, makes sure everyone is treated not equal but fair, goes to bat for employees when needed and final takes care of employees without them having to ask to be taken care of
Pros
The company tends to value a work/life balance. There are occasional company outings and parties to help engage employees.
Cons
Pelco often partitions its functions along rigid lines leading to impenetrable silos of knowledge and capability. Often times, wrangling an answer or solution out of someone or some organization produces a battle or wait far beyond the value of the desired outcome. Perhaps because of this, many people don't feel empowered to make meaningful decisions based on available data.
Incentive "bonuses" are handed out as "Pelco points" that are good only for company-branded dress wear. Your base salary is your only income -- at least in Engineering.
Advice to Senior Management
Reign in the spin. The messages coming down from "on high" read like bald-faced lies and implicate your reader as a mindless buffoon. Truth wins above all.
