I have been working at Pella Windows & Doors

    Pros

Great company to teach you lean manufacturing principles that you can take to any other company and be able to apply.

    Cons

It tends to be a very professional environment sometimes it's hard to be able to be yourself and fit the mold.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure advancement opportunities are given fairly instead of on a personal basis.

I have been working at Pella Windows & Doors full-time

    Pros

Small business atmosphere that encourages employees to stand out. Great benefits despite everything going on with insurance throughout the country. Good pay. Great products to sell that you can stand behind.

    Cons

Being a smaller company means fewer structured opportunities for advancement. They try to do what they can but there aren't constant openings to advance.

I have been working at Pella Windows & Doors full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great pay
    Solid benefits
    Nice environment to work

Pella treated me well for a number of years and I finally got a day time job and then it all went to crap. Some say I could have avoided this and stayed on nights but nights was not where I wanted to be at this point in my life.

    Cons

Some management are allowed to run unchecked. This creates an environment that is not very productive for normal operators

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Watch your managers and make sure they are not abusing their power or influencing other managers to sway a vote or decision.

    Pros

$ Interesting and Challenging. Very little room for growth.

    Cons

No teamwork. Interesting and Challenging. Very little room for growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a network of teams. No island idea-ology. There was talk of a "family atmosphere", but no one really showed/lived/believed it. This had changed over the last 4 years after corporate took over, and the bottom line became the defining factor.

    Pros

    company values, a regular paycheck

    Cons

low paygrades for the job and workload, little to no opportunities for promotion or career advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

encourage and promote their employees that are interested in other career paths within the company and that are interested in moving up or trying something new and more challenging, within the company, increase in salaries is long overdue, and provide consistent and solid bonus structures

I worked at Pella Windows & Doors full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very quality focused and emphasis on providing value for the consumer. Lack of diversity at corporate headquarters. Pay is lower compared to other engineering jobs but Pella has a superior profit sharing program.

    Cons

Very little chance for promotion if starting there. Career advancement still tied to years with company versus performance. Nothing groundbreaking in terms of technology involved in windows or door manufacturing.

I worked at Pella Windows & Doors full-time

    Pros

    competitive pay, coffee is available

    Cons

no personal growth, misleading, management is not personable but instead not pleasant to work under. workers are afraid to take breaks. Walk on egg shells. everyone and their brother work there. very negative environment and uncomfortable feeling. Bad vacation benefits. training is a joke. no ergonomics for the work stations. you have to provide your own pens and supplies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get rid of the management who isn't there to work together. hire pleasant people..oh wait, that wouldn't work because all management was negative.

I worked at Pella Windows & Doors full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

When business is good the company seems to do well and let you do your work. Good benefits package. Great product and support of their product.

    Cons

Management does not seem to listen to employees concerns. As a field technician they are not evaluating your work and recognizing the good job you provide.

When construction business is bad they start to micro manage and make things worse. Start to cut hours, incentives, and bonus' but expect you to complete more work in that time for less money.

In my field and location was not much of an opportunity for promotion. Wages was fairly low considering the wide scope of work you had to perform. New hires are hired in at a much higher rate than people there for 10+ years.
